Sean, remember the question is on the 79 308 GTS only here....so the dash panel should be silver...black started with the GTSi/GTBi.

The dash panel around the instruments was silver on the early cars, black on the later cars.

The dash board and door consol/pull were black as was the rear deck behind your seats.

I don't know about the carpet colors off hand, but Bluemel's book has all that stuff in it.

The steering wheel also changed b/w the early cars, FI, and QV cars.

I don't see my interior color (dark brown, aka "luggage") shown there on the Connoly color guide...

Horsefly,
Dave's right on. No trim tags & unless you have very complete records, you'll never be able to find out what changed unless someday Ferrari makes the build records public.

Here are a couple of resources that will help w/your questions:
"Original Ferrari V8" by Keith Bluemel
A well done & serious attempt to create a reference covering all aspects of each of the V8 models, along with some good historical info.
Great color photos. Will answer your questions
& more. It's the best available reference even tho it's been found to have a few errors. Keith
is most knowledgable about the Euro varients(fewest errors).
Available from www.amazon.com and often on eBay.

As to leather colors, this web site attempts to represent all of the Conolly leather colors:

http://www.worlduph.com/connolly.htm

The color 'Magnolia' is often referred to as 'cream'.

The newer 308S (GTSi/GTBi & QVs) & 328s had black instrument panels.

Never seen any trim tag, only the paint tag on the rear engine lid.

All dashs, consoles and arm rests were black vinyl, with a very few "special ordered" ones that had leather of various colors (I don't know the validity of this, just seen it claimed in ads for 308's for sale). Seats and doors always matched in the cars I have seen.

The instrument panel for the speedo and tach are always silver.

Never trust the interior colors to be original, any longer...age, fading, redyes, and replacement all take their toll, so who knows what "original" color is supposed to look like anymore.

Regarding a '79 model 308GTS, what were the available interior colors? And what do they look like in understandable terms? I have heard of some interiors referred to as "cream" but the photos look more like "white" to me. And what I might call "cream" would appear to be "sand" colored to somebody else. What were the available interior colors? Were the original seats colored differently from the door panels? What about the dash pad? Same color as the seats or different? And more specifically, what color is the dash panel surrounding the instruments? One person told me they were all black, but I saw one car that had a silver panel surrounding the instruments. Is there any rhyme or reason? And most importantly, is there a paint and trim tag that tells all?
