Frank and Charlie: Thanks for the infomation.

I just have to decide; if I want to put another
older mid engine 12cyl Italian car in my garage.

I like the classic design and feel of the Boxer.
Unfortunately I see todays cars being made cheaper
and cheaper. The cars today have to some degree
lost their indivudual character. It does not
help when the "parent company" decides to steal
from the parts bin for economic reasons.

I feel cars like the Boxer are amongst the few
cars from the 80's that have avoided sharing
parts (for the most part) from the inventory.

I just purchased my Boxer. I had the PPI done at Ferrari of Atlanta. I had them go over everything and do a comporession test it was only $360 which to me seemed reasonable to have some reassurance. Fortunately it all checked outperfect except for a cooling fan that needed work on the fuse box. My car had full service about 2 years ago, also had a ton of other things because it had sat for 15 years in a temp controlled garage. I was told I shouldnt have to do anything except fluids for at least 2 years. That is assuming nothing breaks. I have driven the car a few times now and love it. He also had a full Tubi exhaust put on it which makes it wound great. I dont think you will be unhappy. Even though I only have it a very short time I have good vibes about a happy long term relationship. Plus people just go nuts whenever they see it. I say go for it. Just a note I know there were very few of these cars produced but it seems like they are all for sale at the same time.

My 1982 Belgium spec BB512i had 12,xxx miles on it when I got it in Nov 2003. I have spent $6k for a major service, $2.5k for a new cluth, $2k to remove all the side marker lights/rubber bumpers/paint work and other DOT conversion crap, $500 for a radiator recore, $1k for 2 fluid changes and a few hundred other dollars for assorted items to freshen her up. I have drove her about 5k miles so far. I love the way the Boxer looks, drives and sounds and would recommend one to anyone looking for an older Ferrari.

Greetings:

Please forgive any stupid questions I might
ask. I am sure they have been asked before.

1. Do you find the 512BBi fairly reliable;
if you drive it once a week ? I realize
every car is different. Do you enjoy it
after the car has been sorted out ?

2. If you assume 8K-10K for a major every
five years, does that usually taken care of
most of the cost of maintainance aside from
little items ? Clutch "around" 3K.

3. Are parts available ?

4. I have heard from people that you
should plan on spending around 10K after
you purchase a garage queen.

I know this has all been asked before.
I just do not know; if I want to put
another hi maintainance vehicle in the
garage. Of course every car is different.
The car I am looking at has been taken
care of by an enthusiast collector. It
has low mileage. Of course they all do !!

It has records, records, and more records.
P.P.I. will be done; if we agree on a price.
The car was purchased in Belgium and brought
over.

Should a compression test also be done ????

Thanks
Ralph
