Mike, 1.) Though I am also a recently new owner of the F355 and haven't yet had the oil changed as an owner, it appears that the records show that Mobil 1 Synthetic was used by the dealer. My M.Y. 95 owner's manual says, however, to fill with Agip SINT 2000 10W40 or Agip SINT 2000 GPX 10W40. I think I am going to stick to the Mobil 1 for I have great confidence in it. As far as TomD's comment on the 5W not necessary in SoCal, it sounds reasonable, however I don't think using 5W30 would hurt, and would probably be optimal. For our Camaro SS, the manual says that for all the bigger engine V8 Camaros to use 5W30 regardless of temperature, which makes sense. 2.) I know of two places for workshop and parts manuals--italiancarparts.com sells both as an authorized bound copy, very complete though expensive and not original copies (though I believe the workshop manuals aren't even for sale to the public in any form, as told to me by a local Ferrari dealer. Also, I remember Ferraribooks.com, a sponser for this site, posted once not too long ago that he had these on CD and as paper copies, though I am not sure if those are bound. I emailed the guy once and he was very helpful so I would recommend emailing them for questions. I hope all this helps. |

Pino: I didn't have to do the instrument pod but, the fellow at GAHH, Jack (see string below), said he does a number of these for Japaneese clients who send them over to him. You might also try Prestige (Ask for Fernando)in No. Hollywood, 818-753-9606...who apparently does all the work for Ferrari of Bev.Hills...but he's expensive. Then there is Doug who owns Elite in Agoura Hills who does all the work for Ogner (Auth. Ferrari) in Woodland Hills , CA. at 818-889-7644...much more reasonable. BUT!! I've never used either of them myself, but their local reputations are quite acceptable. Hope that helps. Mike |

Thanks for the tip, but how did you handle the stitching on the dash? |

Thanks Tom, Joe and Paul...good info. Joe, to your questions; The car has 16k miles (if it's honest), and has only been driven 2k in the last two years. It just passed a Calif. SMOG (before the light came on). Kind of short life for an O2 sensor in my experience, but then my experience is with cars that get driven. On the dash; I've got the source for the Material GAHH in No. Hollywood 818-767-6242, talk to Jack, they have all the OEM interior materials. I have enough black leather to do one more myself. Also, not to be shy about the R&R on the dash...it's easier than in many cars. I got it out in 4 hours without damaging anything else. It's about a 12 hour job in total. And I've got a couple of L.A. sources if you want to buy the service...one who runs around to the dealers doing it for them to mark-up. Mike |

What kind of mileage is on the car? My experience with the CEL is usually due to an O2 sensor, or catalytic converter. I would not say the OBD2 is delicate, but it is sensative, and can keep tabs on a lot of information. My dealer uses Mobil 1 (10W40) with their oil changes, even though it clearly states the use of Shell. My '95 F355 recommended Agip. I'm sure the change had something to do with signing Shell on as their F1 sponser. Any quality oil should do. Synthetic preferrably. What info can you provide on the recovering of your dash? |

Thanks in advance for any info you may be able to provide. I have a few questions on my '96 355; 1)Since the Shell Helix motor oil isn't available to me, what is the recommendation? Also, is the 5W-40 the right call for a warm (Southern Cal.) climate? And, what is the thinking regarding use of synthetics (Mobil 1) in these cars? 2)Any Workshop manuals available? Where? 3)Seeking suggestions on trouble shooting the cause and fix for the "suspension fault" light coming on just after I get moving. It came on sometime just after I'd washed the car, and I checked/dried the electrical connectors at the rear shocks to no avail. Should I look to the accelerometers up front (where do I access them ?) any common causes to this fault?? 4) I read the chat on the OBD2 and the check engine light/generic tester etc. below. My Check Light is on and I'm seeking the cause short of hauling it off to the shop. Any recommendations on the selection of a tester?? Anybody use the Baum Tools units ?? The OBD socket is in fact under the dash, to the left of the radio, pointing down...just about where the owners manual says it is. 5) Are the cars very sensitive to the OBD2 check eng. light...that is, are they prone to lighting up at the slightest upset? I was working it out pretty hard (and me too)when it lit up. NOTE: If anyone is seeking info on recovering the top of the dash board...I can help as I'm just about finised with that adventure. Thanks, Mike |
