Verell, you must have been looking in the wrong place. Even after the judging was completed, there was still plenty of food left over (no way did all that food get consumed)!!!

If you come to Hartford, I guarantee, you will NOT want dinner on Sunday!

I've got Hartford as a 'maybe' in my calendar. I'm a little nervous about my 308's alternator, but maybe I'll find time to pull it & check it out by then. At worst I'll have to do a mini-rebuild & put new slip rings on the rotor.

re:"The food provided by Ferrari of New England was delicious..."

DAMN, I thought I saw something being set up, but by the time we judges finished our duties, there wasn't a scrap of food in sight! I ended up driving home cold wet & hungry!!! Called my wife about 10 miles out & she put on a can of corn chowdah...

Ah, well, I still had a great time! Learning to judge was a lot of fun! Learned a lot of the finer points, but the rain kept things a bit loose & informal.

The Hartford Concorso is open and absolutely free to the public. People can vote for the "People's Choice" award (though I suspect the Enzo will win). The Enzo will be there parked adjacent to a 288GTO, and F40 and an F50.

Owners do have to pay, but EVERY DOLLAR of your registration fee goes to charity (the Connecticut Children's Medical Center; all the costs are covered by donations from sponsors). Registrants get to participate in the concours, and get lunch - and the lunch is by FAR the best meal I've ever had at these sorts of things. Essentially, you'd gladly pay $30-$60 for a Sunday brunch like this alone. Also, if you register early enough, you get to participate in the police-escorted parade through Hartford, and you get to take a child from the Hospital back to Bushnell Park, where you pull up through a big throng of cheering people. Pretty cool.

vty,

I think that anyone from the public can show up to look at the cars, Dennis will know if its free (probably). As an owner there's a charge to display and for lunches etc.

I'll be there with my Black360 and will make a better attempt to find Dennis & hopefully share Black360 stories with Peter L :-).

The black 360 with the split rims and Challenge shields belongs to a good friend of mine, Peter Lombardo, from outside Hartford (he has a few, and drives a 355CH at the track).

Yesterday was a lot of fun, even with the rain. The food provided by Ferrari of New England was delicious (quietly open to everyone), and could spend as much time with the Enzo as one wanted.

The Fiat 144(?) shell they pulled out of the barn to get another car was impressive... it was just the fenders and wheels and engine and floorboard, but it RAN. Most impressive -- the headlights were bright! Dang, how many old Fiats can you say that about?

Sorry I didn't actually see any Chatters. Dang, doody and Dan, you should have said hello! (don't tell me that you couldn't spot me!!!).

So I should have stopped by the show with my dirty 348 spider full of tools(Dewalt cordless drill, sawzall, planer, extension cords etc etc).
Extra points for most utilitarian Ferrari?

My 360 was there on the grass for a good couple of hours whilst we vainly hoped for "light drizzle" as an alternative to the pouring rain. The bizzarest thing of all is that when I got home and the car was dried out it still looked freshly waxed. I guess the polish really did its stuff and not much dirt stuck on!

I did get to chat to Doody, and my 1st son certainly enjoyed the toy car in the shop in the Museum. I have to give the museum a big thums up for the "Please climb in me" sign on the toy car, its great to see that type of thinking to give the little ones something the CAN touch. This at least gives some respite from zone-defense used to stop the Enzo receiving small finger prints :-)

I was great to see the Enzo w/o the crowds that were at the introduction in Backbay.

One other cool thing for me was to see another black 360, this one with the Shields and the split rim wheels. Maybe I'll have the shields next time... or perhaps a black CS... Was that car an F-Chatter's?

Otherwise I'd second a random F-chat meet or drive. Perhaps a weekday evening - as you might imply from Doody's remarks about 2 monsters, weekend getaways do require a good degree of permission/spade work/point trading.

The trip to Harford IS booked for me and my wife (Monsters have been handed off for 2 whole days). So hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Sorry I missed the Enzo. My only look at one was in Maranello last year, testing at Fiorano and on the street between the track and the factory. I would have loved to have seen it up close.

Any chance of an F Chat gathering over the summer? We'll be back in Italy for July but before or after it sure would be nice to have some faces to put with the names!

Sorry Verell, did not make it to the show. 1st time in years.
Took the spider to the Cape Saturday. 100 miles top down driving, nice day. Tubi sounds super in the tunnel through Boston.
The drive back was not so pleasant Sunday at 5:30AM. Before the heavy rain but still wet. Ferrari ran flawlessly until 5 miles before home. Speedo quit. Sender, I think.

I came around 11:30 and stayed for about an hour. I did not bring the 328 (and glad I didn't). Too bad there were only a dozen or so Fcars. No Lambos either. The only highlight was seeing the Enzo up close. I have never seen one before in person and I must say it was very cool.

I looked around for some people but did not see anyone. I must admit I wasn't looking to hard, but it was not easy as everyone was wearing hats or umbrellas.

Hopefully, next year will be sunny. Either that or hopefully I will move to Sunny Phoenix, AZ.

Mr Doody covered it pretty well.

Rain turning to downpour turning to rain. I drove up from Eastern CT, in the Volvo wagon, and was glad I didn't take the 308. Just miserable driving. My regards to all those that braved this in their Fcar.

There was a 348 which came a little late.

Verell was doing his judge in training activities, though we did get to chat between cars.

One advantage I had never thought of, when you get it judged in the rain, there's no issues with how clean the car is or isn't.

back home. warm. dry. socks no longer soaked through :-).

there was also a 456 and a TR and one or two mondials, including one cab that was very impressive.

the enzo viewing was spectacular since there was no crowd - you could spend as much time as you wanted ogling whatever curve caught your fancy. very cool.

i don't think there were any 348s at all if memory serves (it frequently doesn't).

the judging was done under a tent. i hope those judges got some nice swag for their efforts - ugh.

nobody showed at the food booth at 11:30. but my feelings aren't hurt. no. they're not. really. ;-) ;-) ;-).

i saw Dan360, who bravely brought his car (and his very cute two little monsters!) to the show all the way from the north shore. i saw Verell judging, but didn't bother him since he seemed to have more than enough to deal with. i hope that wasn't your white Rx7 with the sunroof open a crack!

someone brought the shell of an alfa (fiat?) without seats and without a rear window section. it was very amusing to see it sitting there thinking about just rusting out for lack of anything better to do!

not a single lambo this year. a handful each of alfas and fiats. certainly no detomasos - those were fun last year.

bozobrain did not bring his camera, of course. sorry.

well, hopefully next year the weather will cooperate. maybe this'll pump the hartford attendance up on the 22nd since virtually nobody was able to get their ferrari jollies today. i can't make that show, unfortunately :-(.

Too far a drive and too much rain. On top of that a not-so-great showing at Monaco. Guess I'll just stay home and be miserable.

I'm really tired of this rotten New England weather. Of course, the weather will turn gorgeous just in time to go to work tomorrow.

well, this storm officially stinks.

the most pessimistic forecasts of yesterday were clearly a bit over the top, but i'm guessing that the most optimistic forecasts were, well, optimistic.

from the looks of the radar we're still in for some nasty spells, though at least it's been punctuated with some times of mere sprinkles, fwiw. right at this moment (09:16 ET) it's precipitation-free, in fact! though it was raining cats and dogs less than an hour ago, and the radar shows more cats and more dogs on their way.

i'm planning to attend for a couple hours. i hope there's a decent turnout of f-cars.

the 550 is staying in the garage (yes, i'm not helping the matter), i didn't go through this hassle to make her gorgeous just to drive through rain and puddles and drive/park it on grass and mud.

note to self: move the hell out of new england!

doody.

ps: if you're mr. doody-hunting, now it's blue jeans, yellow FCA polo shirt, and red LLBean hooded jacket :-(.

Well, I gave it a best effort, but I'm falling back to Plan B. I've almost got the passenger side ready for compounding & polishing, & haven't touched the driver's side. Still leaves unmasking, installing the fender wells & wheels, vacuuming & reassembling the interior. Best estimate is 10-12 more hours work.

So I'll drive my rice rocket to the event tomorrow. Only consolation is that the weather sounds highly uncooperative also.

Looking fwd to meeting you all tomorrow!!

I still plan to be there, rain or nay. I signed up to judge, so I can't in good faith let a little rain keep me away.

I just sprayed the last quadruple color coat on my 308 last night. If I can color sand, buff it out, and reassemble the interior tonight, then I'll drive it tomorrow. A little water shouldn't hurt it. Plan B is to drive my '97 Rx7 TurboII.

WEATHER UPDATE

Well, as of 13:00 ET Saturday things sure don't look too good for tomorrow. The 1800 mile doppler shows a nasty storm with a nasty twist in it.

http://www.weather.com/weather/map/USMA0058?name=northeastdopplerradar1800_large_animated&day=1

They seem to be classifying it as a nor'easter. One forecast is saying 1" to 2" of rain (up to 3" in some few areas) and minor flooding. Winds up to 25MPH.

I haven't found any forecast that looks even vaguely optimistic for the period 09:00-17:00.

I'm still hopeful though. The weather last year looked horrible overnight, and was wet in the morning, but it did pan out.

Doody.

Doody, I think you can still enter your 550 in the concours, you just won't stick around to collect your trophy (can't hurt; no extra cost; if the judges are late to getting to the 12 cylinders, oh well!).

And I'm pretty sure the parking lot to the Pillar house is fenced off closed....

geez, but the weather forecast for sunday has been all over the map the last few days. let's all keep our fingers and toes crossed!

unfortunately, i must attend a memorial service sunday afternoon. as a result, i'll be at the show from about 10:00 until 12:00.

if we could move the meet from 12:30 to 11:30 that'd be great, otherwise look for me and say "hi!"- i'll be wearing jeans and a yellow FCA polo shirt.

doody.

PS: because i won't be sticking around, i won't be able to enter the 550 in the concours - bummer!

PPS: a good place to meet near 9 & 95 is in the parking lot of the old Pillar House restaurant located at 16 & 95, one exit North of 9. it's been closed for years now, and i haven't been by in quite a while, so can't guarantee you can still get into the lot - they may have closed it off by now - you'd want to get some clarification on that.

PPPS: alternately, there's a big, new, health insurance office complex on the westbound side of 9, across from the Sun Life campus, at the lights just before 95 (if you're heading east on 9). no clue if it's gated off or whatnot, but i don't think it is. this used to be some state building of some sort, refurb'd a couple years ago maybe.

Hi,
Since the MOT is off of Rt9, I suggest planning to meet near either the Rt 9 & Rt95 intersection, or the Rt9 & Rt495 intersections. (Anyone know of a good meeting place close to one/both of them?)

I may not be able to meet with you tho. I think I have to be at MOT early. Somehow Christian Scott got the idea that I'm an expert on 3x8 Ferraris. He twisted my arm until I agreed to judge one of the Ferrari Concours events.(Don't laugh!!) I'm not sure yet what time I'm supposed to be there.

My refinishing work is running down to the wire. The latest (as of 9:00 tonight) projects spraying the 1st triple color coat mid-day tomorrow. Colorsanding Thursday AM & spraying the 2nd triple color coat. Then the final colorsanding, buffing & glazeing Friday AM. Yes, I'm eating up a week's vacation to do this 'small' body work project!!! Now I know why it costs so darn much to have any body work done. I must have 20+ hours into this rocker panel rust removal project! Not to mention about $500 in paint supplies!

This one's going to be down to the wire. The end is in sight tho!

I'm doing the last bit of sanding & masking. Next is spraying 3 coats of filler, then misting on a guide coat. Hand blocksanding until the gide coat is gone indicating the surface is absolutely level. Then priming, sealing & spraying 3 color costs, 24 hours of air dry, then color sanding with 1000 grit & spraying a final 3 coats. I may be taking next Thursday & Friday off so I have a 5-day weekend to finish this project up!

I've bought a new DeVilbiss GFG-670 spray gun for the color coat, so equipment can't be blamed if the finish doesn't come out glass smooth!

how about we schedule a FerrariChat lunch at noon-thirty? we can all meet near the food booth, grab some munchies and find some nice grass seating to eat and greet on?

further details as we get closer of course, but just want to suggest something to get it started.

Hey, I just found the secret Northeast section of Fchat too (blame Mr. Doody)....

The Tutto Italiano event, as Doody pointed out, is largely a Ferrari show (and certainly the largest Italian car gathering in New England) -- the Ferraris push the Lambos, Alfa, Fiats and etceterini to the small fields on the sides....

A couple of points. If you park on the lawn, you CAN get out whenever you want. It may require another car or two to shift, but you're certainly not trapped. Parking on the lawn is more secure, in that it's somewhat less likely that your valve caps will be stolen, and it's also more fun - you get to chat more with people with questions about your car. Also, the entire fee goes to the Museum, which is a good cause.

If you preregister, you save $10. And it's good to be judged, even if you don't win, because the documentation will come in handy to argue valuation if you ever, g_d forbid, have to make an insurance claim!

Official info from the flier follows:

Ferrari and Maserati of New England and Putnam Leasing present the 8th Annual Tutto Italiano Sunday, June 1, 2003

Over 200 cars from all Italian marques will come together for a fully judged Concours on the scenic grounds of the Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Last year more than 50 awards were given for the
following Italian marques: Ferrari Alfa Romeo Lamborghini Detomaso Maserati Other marques

The show is scheduled 10 am - 2 pm. To be judged, you must arrive by 10:30 am. Your Concours entry fee also includes admission to the Museum for you and a guest.

The Concours will be held SundayRain or Shine!
We hope to see you there! Cio!

As is often the case with theoretical math, your hypothetical equation needs adjustments to make it work in the real world. In this case simple subtraction would bring it into line:

Minus: 30 years
Minus: 30 pounds
Minus: 1 wife

But it is nice to ponder theory! LOL

Thanks for the info! I have not gone before but have heard about it. I missed the last one (I got my 328 a month later!).

I would like try to hook up with other NE F-chatters.

A quick note for anyone who hasn't been to this event before. And apologies if this is repetitive "standard fare" for these sorts of events - I didn't know this stuff when I went last year, so just in case others don't either....

If you're bringing your f-car you have two basic options.

Option one is to park on the lawn as part of the festivities. My understanding is that you can ask not to be judged if you don't want to be judged in the concours, though my guess is that the powers that be would prefer not to have any nasty cars on the lawn.

Option two is to bring your f-car but don't park on the lawn - go in the main entrance and there is usually plenty of parking beyond the lawn up on the hill (and a great view up there, btw).

If you choose to park on the lawn, my understanding is that it's not an in-and-out exercise. It's all roped-off and they setup sections to group cars together in various ways and stuff like that. Once you're in, you're basicalily there until the end of the event (15:00? 16:00?), for better or for worse.

I'll almost certainly be bringing an f-car, but will almost certainly not park on the lawn since I can't stay all day.

FYI, and hopefully I won't jinx it, they've traditionally had very good weather for this event. It did rain the morning of the event last year, but it was all cleared up in the early AM and things went without a hitch thereafter.

I foolishly forgot my camera last year - I will try not to make that mistake again this time, and post pics that evening.

Doody!

Hi
I will be attending this year, I missed it last year due to the weather (rained that morning). Hope to meet some chat members there.
Also will be attending the service clinic at FoNE

On June 1st 2003, the Museum of Transportation in Brookline MA (just outside of Boston) will be hosting the annual Tutto Italiano event, which, if history is any guide, is largely a Ferrari show.

Let's use this thread to organize a gathering of FChat nuts.

Doody.

PS: This was a great time last year! If you've never been before, it's time to start!
