Marq, the yellow one in your profile is the one I saw. There may be another Ferrari owner in Germantown. I just saw a red 328 in traffic heading west on 118 driven by an older gentleman (10/6/03).

Are there any owners in Gaithersburg, MD? The only Ferrari I've seen has been a yellow one in Germantown a while back and a red 3x8 up in Damascus MD.

Sunday pm is good for me, Monday is better.
We can 'talk down' Tony from the trip to Antwerp. :-)

Will be headed out to Laurel this week to check on the car. If you guys have never been to Grand Touring, it's worth the trip and there's a rib place nearby.

I'll be in Antwerp for the next week but will be around for some of the labor day weekend. Krispy kreme in Alexandria on Sunday? I'm sure I'll be hungry for american food by then.

Hi Russ - I'm going to be out of town this weekend (going on a very brief vacation) but will be back on Tuesday. If you are interested, we should try to get some folks together over the labor day weekend. Barring that, I would be glad to invite you over for a beer to talk cars, etc. My dad might be in town with his new special-ordered purple E46 SMG M3, also, which might be fun to play with. Let me know. I forgot, what are you doing with USAF?

OK
Even though the Ferrari is still at Grand touring in Laurel, anyone interested in getting together this Thursday, 14 August for a howdy-do?
I'm still getting lost around here, but can generally find the Macaroni Grill at Kingstowne Mall as a first suggestion, as I don't know anything around here.

I'm here!!
Am currently moving into Alexandria this weekend. Car is at Grand touring in Laurel waking up from storage (with a couple of tweaks - see Tech section on 3.2 with carbs).
Starting on Monday. Will look forward to seeing you all soon - perhaps a coming out get together for my Bambino? Should find the FListers as well.
best to all

Jeff- Good to hear from you. I'll be moving to your neighborhood (Bethesda) on Saturday(8/9) so there'll be at least two Ferraris there. I'm about a block from the Linden Hill Racquet Club; just up the street from the Marriott.

I haven't checked this area chat in so long I forgot it was here. Count me in on any drives. I live in Bethesda and it seems the only ferraris I ever see around here are at FofW. Look forward to meeting up.

Marco- No problem here, either. The more the merrier!

Matthew-I'm overlapping my current place with the new place for a month. The actual move date isn't 'til August 9th. Barbara and I are moving stuff in little by little over the weekends so we can move in and already be partially, at least, set up. We're trying our best to have a 'leisurely' move, if there is such a thing. Thanks for asking!

Russ- Best wishes for a safe and easy relocation. Looking forward to getting together after you're settled in.

To All-There are a lot of Ferraris here in the DC Metro area but not much happening in the way of drives and get-togethers. While I don't have a wretched excess of free time, Barbara and I will make every effort to meet up and go on some weekend drives and/or any other local get-togethers with you guys. We're looking forward to it! Perhaps the dealership(FoW) would be a good place for a first meet up? Upload

Am leaving via Narita to Atlanta to Newport News this weekend after 2 years here in the land of the rising sushi. Should be looking at the Island Creek place next week and moving in thereafter. Hopefully will be getting the Ferrari out of it's Major the middle of August.

I'm all up for an icebreaker anytime, and a Fall drive to follow.

Looking forward to meeting everyone

Hi Guy's,

Been following the board for a while and have been a long time Ferrari fan all my life. I live between Bethesda and Rockville. While I don't have an F-car at the moment, I am looking and would like to pick up as much info before I dive in. Would you mind if I tag along on your drives? Since there will be an M-coupe there, do you mind if I bring my BMW 850? Let me know.

Thanks,

Marco

Good to hear from you. Sorry, don't know anything about Island Creek in Alexandria but the fact that you have a garage sounds nice. Congrats. Best wishes for a safe move and we'll see ya after you get here and get settled in.

Hello everyone
While still in Japan at the moment, a friend has hooked me up with a place called Island Creek in Alexandria. Don't need a big place since don't know if I'm going to be staying very long, but it has a nice garage for the Bambino. Any words appreciated. Biggest unknown to me is commute to Ft McNair.

Will be in town in 2 weeks, so looking forward to seeing everyone.

Matt, Tony and Jon
Konnichiwa!
Thanks for all the great replies!
will definitely begin looking at places after the holiday (and my birthday) weekend, and appreciate all the great advice. Always up for listings - the single private garage is the driver as I will be doing some upgrades to the car when I get back to the states..

Will hopefully have the car out of it's major (with a few upgrades) late August, and will definitely be up for a drive!
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

best to all

Russ - some of the condo's do come up for rent, but probably not for a short period (1 year minimum). You might even want to consider DC for renting - there are many nice building up and down CT avenue with garages. In alexandria, there are rentals oftentimes in Old Town at the Torpedo Factory (which has a garage) and several other buildings. If you want, I can always e-mail you some listings. Definitely count me in for a drive, if you don't mind slumming with a BMW!

I'm just waiting for a time when I don't have to see if the wipers on my 64 330 keep the screen dry. We've had a crappy spring. Saw a black testarossa a few weeks ago, and theres a black 550 parked out in front of this house near me in Bethesda year round. Lets arrange something in DC-at least a trip to Krispy Kreme if not skyline drive.

Russ, you might look around the northern calvert county, upper marlboro area, the prices are way lowwer than near Alexandria, and you can take the Suitland Parkway or metro to Ft. McNair.

Marq - Count me in on the fall ride, Skyline Drive etc. would be fantastic.

Marq and Jonathan
thanks for the replies. Will be looking forward to that Fall drive.
Since will only be there a short time, should probably look at initially renting. Old Town Greens sound really nice, but doubt there would be any leases. I'm interested if you know of any there or something like that. A loft would be even better, but like we said, the garage is the driver.

Can't wait to meet everyone and check out the Ferraris and that M coupe!

best
Russ

Russ - I currently live on Slater's lane just outside (really just, about a mile) of Old Town proper. There's a development here that's quite nice (Old Town Greens) that includes both townhouses (running about $500K) and condos (about 350K). The condos are 2 bdrms and have a single car garage attached. My commute (to Penn. Ave. in DC) is about 20 minutes over the 14th street bridge. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you want more information or want to check out our place when you get back. We had previously lived in the heart of Old Town (Queen St.) but moved when my wife discovered she was pregnant (historic house ='s mucho lead) and I really, really wanted a garage. Although I was hesitant about the development idea, I've been pleasantly surprised. Not many cool cars, though, absent my M Coupe and a Z06.

Russ, a Fall drive for some of the DC Metro area FChatters sounds nice. We should definitely plan on doing something like that; need to boost the 'on the road' activity quotient in this area. There are a ton of cars but not many, or so it seems, 'drivers' here. As you're aware, its gorgeous during the Fall 'round here and it would be the perfect time to get the cars out for a spin.
Again, best of luck for a smooth relocation. Hope that all goes well for ya.Upload

Thanks Will and Marq
I've used FoW for the last several years while I was in Newport News as they had that great free transport deal that is now $550. May still stick with them for some stuff. Will arrive around 21 July, so will get the car in for it's major asap.

Thanks for the housing advice! Am only going to be there a year, and kids not a factor so looking to rent. The single attatched Garage for the bambino seems to be the limiting factor. Will keep looking. Have heard the commute can be heinous. I'll be at Ft. McNair, which I understand is not in the best side of town.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and a pretty Fall drive.
thanks again

Will-
Didn't know you reside in Potomac. Fantastic! What a gorgeous area! I've lived in the DC area all my life; actually a 4th generation Washingtonian (rare, as you know) and wouldn't dream of living anywhere else. Lived in Chevy Chase for 17 years, then made a mistake by moving further out to Germantown. I'm a hard-core 'city boy' and, as I stated, can't wait to move back closer to the city next month. Hope to run into you sometime.

Russ-
As Will queried, are you familiar with the area? I cannot stress enough the veracity of his statement with regard to commuting being a MAJOR factor in this region. Pick your location wisely. However, with a multitude of choices, you'll certainly be able to find something that works for you. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you. Again, let us know when you've arrived! Perhaps we can put together a drive as there are lots of areas close by for a nice cruise. Best of luck with your move!

Russ - I also use FoW for service.

Agree w/Marq that the Alex area has a lot of product that matches the small house or townhouse description. South of Old Town, along the George Washington Parkway corridor on the way to Mount Vernon, there are a number of houses that might work - as there are in south Arlington. Tried washingtonpost.com, or any of the area realtor sites (Long and Foster is a big one)? Prices for the same product of course can vary hugely, as is no doubt the case everywhere. Kids? Schools? Do you know the area? Commuting is of course a MAJOR factor. As you are a Porsche guy, you could pose the same question on the local Porsche Club website, which is pretty active, pcapotomac.org.

Marq - Live in Potomac, but Bethesda I think is about as good as this area gets.

Russ-
Not familiar enough with any of the local independent shops to recommend anyone as I use Ferrari of Washington for my service.
Looked in the Washington Post for ya today and there seems to be a fair amount of places in Old Town and nearby areas. You didn't specify, are you looking to rent or buy?
I'm moving myself, in early August, back to Bethesda from Germantown; it's too far out and I miss the city life.
Let us know when you arrive and get settled. Best of luck on your move.

Konnichiwa from Japan
Will be moving to DC in late July/August.
Car has been in storage and am planning to use Chuck Wray at GT in Laurel for a Major as it comes out of storage. What other good places are there?

Also, any advice on where to find 2 bdr with single attached garage - small house or townhouse - around Alexandria (Oldtowne?) much much appreciated.

Hope to meet you all and hook up with my old FList buds soon,
best
Russ
