Hello to all MI Ferrari owners and fans. The FCA MI chapter will have a Nov event at Kart to Kart in Sterling Heights, followed by a dinner, if anyone is left alive! Date is TBD, but at the March event we had 23 racers. We need more owner participation if we are going to get this chapter up and running....Dave Wexall

Hello Greg...I was there too, but didn't meet anyone as no prior arrangements were made for it. Also went to Gingerman the following week, turn out wasn't as good as last year though.

Where were all you guys when it was Concorso d'Italia time? I met John M. (JM2) and Jerry W.(Tork 1966) there. Chris Horner was also there, but we didn't meet. What about everyone else?

I hear there's a great kart track in the sterling heights area...

Hello to everyone who has posted regarding WHY ISN'T THEIR MORE HAPPENING IN MICHIGAN REGARDING FERRARI EVENTS. Dave Wexall and myself have started almost a year ago a Michigan Chapter of Ferrari Club of America have had some events over this past summer with some response.
I have just sent out to all FCA members fly sheets for a drive to Lexington, Michigan from M-59 and I-94 on September 20th leaving at 10:00 AM leaving from Bob Evans at Norhwest corner. If anyone is interested in receiving a information sheet please email me at [email protected] I so far have three people going including myself. Cut off date for go or no go is September 12th so I can tell how many will be for lunch at restaurant in Lexington.
We are trying to have more people involved in Ferrari events any ideas please speak up.

I know it's a long ways off, but my buddy Howard & I are putting together a 1st class car show next July here in Muskegon. I am going to weed out the trash with certain stipulations that must be met (no primer showing, no modified cars without prior approval, etc.) and a $40-$50 entrance fee. The proceeds are going to the Devos Children's Hospital or St. Jude's. I will also have activities for kids (moon walk, dunk tank, etc.) and for the women (may do it in conjunction w/ the Muskegon Summer Celebration...biggest art fair in the state next to Ann Arbor). We are designing the logo right now for the brochure (may call it World of Wheels to acknowledge that cars from all over the world will be there). Can I count on any of you to help me out and bring your Ferraris? I have 3 local 360's and an 87 TR already that gave me the thumbs up. Also, my dad & I each have 308's. Hey John, any chance that we could get something exciting from GM....concept vehicle, a restoration trailer, etc.?

Okay, now that we've established that nobody cares, how do you explain the lack of involvement by Michigan Ferrari owners? I'm not an owner, so I don't have the answer.

I have a friend in the RROC who is a designer at Visteon. He has a Bentley and a Rolls-Royce which he drives to work and nobody seems to care. I have a company that supplies to automotive, but in addition to the big 3, we supply M-B, BMW, Nissan, etc. Anymore, the auto industry is global. Many "imports" are made here and many "domestic" cars are built offshore. Doesn't GM own a big chunk of Fiat now, anyway.

I think it's less of an issue than it used to be.

Gosh fellas...my car is in pieces right now as I'm in the middle of doing a major service, along with restoring various components in and around the engine bay. So my car is off the road till next year I'd say. I do like going to Gingerman, but I'm always a spectator. Did either of you attend that "Italian Plus" carshow in K'zoo's Bronson Park? I went there when the weather turned foul at Gingerman, barely caught the tail end of it. I can understand certain owners laying low, if it could end up being politically incorrect to have a Ferrari. It's not the true expense, but people's "perception" of the expense that makes trouble.

Bill, et al.,

So what are we going to do about it? Jeff says he's down near the IN border - I know a shop in Ft. Wayne that has a dyno that reads to 1750 HP. Let's go there and run some cars on the dyno, then hit some back roads. Or, let's go to Gingerman. Or, let's watch F1 at some cafe or bar. Or, let's do a driving event up the coast to look at the leaves. Who cares - just get out and drive!!!

There are LOTS of Ferraris in Michigan, but for some reason they stay at home. The Detroit Chapter of FCA used to be one of the most active, but Dave Wexall has had a hell of a time getting it up and running again. Who knows why? Maybe many of the owners are involved in the auto industry and are worried about being seen in a competitive make (in the case of those working for the manufacturers) or upsetting their customers in the case of the suppliers.

I know a Ford dealer who owned a 6 Series BMW who hid the car in his garage and only took it out at night because he didn't want the backlash.

Guys,

What about some track time at Gingerman? My M-B is there tonight to be tested by a car magazine, and they tell me Tues, Wed. & Thurs. is open lapping for like $50.00. Any interest?

Hi guys,

I'm in Kalamazoo and Jerry, I feel your pain. I spoke with a local resident owner of a 1990 TR, he stated that there are "about 50" Ferrari's around Kzoo. I don't know where they're hiding. I've lived here one year now (from Chicago) and have never seen one in SW Michigan other than at Gingerman in South Haven.

Jerry and Jeff,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I love to organize things, so I'll keep trying. Any requests on activities/locations/destinations? I'm willing to do whatever anyone would be interested in just to have some Ferrari activity.

I totally agree guys. I would be very interested except I am enen "more marooned" here on the west coast (Muskegon) and any event near Detroit is a 2.5-3 hr. drive for me.

Brentc....I wish it weren't so about lack of interest in our fine state of Michigan. There are times when I feel like I'm marooned on an island as far as Ferraris are concerned. I hope you continue to try to organize a gathering. I know this isn't California or Florida where there are multiple Ferraris in every other household, but we should get off our dead arses and do "something" once in a while.

Well, not exactly the outpouring of enthusiasm I was hoping for from the MI Tifosi. I will continue to try and organize something for the next race. Thanks for the interest from all who posted.

Tell your bar owner friend that there's a guy across the street from me (in Muskegon) with a 2 year old 52" Toshiba for sale for $1000 OBO (Ithink he'll take $800-$850). I looked at it and it is just like new. He paid $2200.00 for it.

I'm not far from Fenton. I live down US 23 in Pinckney, but I'm moving to Atlanta soon. Maybe I could make it to one of the races this year. Keep us posted.

Jeff, Fenton is a long way from Coldwater! You'd probably have to fire up the Testarossa at 5 or 5:30 to make it there by 7:30.

The cafe is in Fenton, MI. It's south of Flint and north of Ann Arbor. I'm working with the cafe owner on it. He wants to make his place a gathering spot for car clubs, etc. No big screen yet, but if there is lots of interest, I'll see what he's willing to do. I hope we can put something together with other area Tifosi.

That sounds like a neat idea. I'm down near the Mich/Indiana border....where will this meeting take place? Is there a big screen TV? Thanks.

I'm trying to organize a regular meeting to watch the F1 races on F1 Sundays at a local cafe. Any interest on the part of F-Chatters? If people want to do this, I will post info here. I look forward to your responses!
