>>Does anyone know where I might find a replica Submariner in London? There's no way I can justify spending $5K on a watch <<

Hey that's the spirit...

and from several feet away no target in the world will know it's a fake.

Now will you take a moment to explain to DES why it's important to impress women, even if it means buying a faux Rolex.

Does anyone know where I might find a replica Submariner in London? There's no way I can justify spending $5K on a watch with three years of college to pay for.

Do you honestly think that the low lifes would know the diffrence between a real one and a fake being shot or mugged is bad enough but for a fake!!surely this is a good enough reason as any not to wear one

I know some folks who wear a replica Rolex when they travel. I can't imagine getting shot over a fake. Oh, the irony! When I travel overseas, I just wear my Breitling Aerospace UTC. Three timezones and it looks good enough with jeans or a suit.

I think getting about 20 or more fake Ladies Rolexs makes the most sense...especially if they can be picked up for a $100 or less...

Can you imagine the tasty gold digger tang one could get with a gift of a ROLEX from a special admirer...

A dozen roses, bottle of Champagne to lube them up and a ROLEX....can you say Gold Digger SLAM DUNK !!!!

Who's goin back to china soon????

Dennis.... I feel sorta the same about fake Ferraris as I do fake watches.

I really wouldnt care to own a poorly done fake. A fiero based car or some other non-Ferrari based fake is not for me. Likewise a fake watch that could be identified as a fake quickly and easily by an expert would also not interest me.

However, a replica 250GTO or 250TR built from a GTE or other donor and correct to the point of only being told from the real thing by the serial number..... I would love to have one of those. Likewise a replica rolex that is exact/correct to the point of only being told from the original by serial number is interesting to me. I dont own one, but I wouldnt mind.

Quick question, for those of you who like fake/knock-off watches:

How do you feel about kit-car Ferraris?

Just curious.

vty,

When I was managing jewelry stores it always cracked me up when someone would come in with a fake Rolex and act like they were some kind of player. I'm not knocking having a fake - heck I've even had them too. But when people would come in wearing a fake, holding their arm just right or shoving it in your face when they point at something, or acting like a high roller, I made it a point to tell them I knew it was a fake. Perhaps not the most professional thing to do but it was funny watching them tuck their tail between their legs and slink out of the store. I would like to see some higher grade fakes, because at least with Rolex I nailed it each and every time. Heck, one guy even had a replica Seiko - no joke. That surprised the crap out of me, I mean of all things to make a fake of. But sometimes people just really liked watches and bought the fake to hold them over until they were at a point in their life where they could afford a real one. It was fun talking about watches with those people because you could tell they were true enthusiasts.

Different strokes David...I have a passion for watches and have over 25 in my collection - some real, some high end replicas. In what I've paid in total, I could easily have 2-3 of the real thing, but for myself, I really like having a nice variety to suit my mood and compliment what I'm wearing.

As I progress in life, hopefully I'll be able to afford more of the real ones. I do appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry of these pieces, and subscribe to some watch magazines. However, in terms of the purely visual aesthetic, if one can purchase a very convincing replica of a watch for considerably less than the real thing, then that is some people's choice (due to myriad factors - income, prioritites, etc.). Of course you can also argue valid points about things like history, complications, etc.

When I receive a compliment on one of my replica watches, I make it a point to admit that the watch is a replica, and have never tried to pretend otherwise. Again, I only have a replica because I love watches and watch designs, and would rather have 20+ in my collection, than a couple real ones. To each his own...

I also have a replica Omega Speedmaster, and have a friend who owns a real one. We have had them for nearly the same length of time, and his had to be sent back to the factory for weeks at a time three different times when it stopped working properly.

With cars, I have a distaste for replicas because of the relationship of use...with watches, the only real USE that I have beyond the visual aesthetic is just that it tells the correct time - replica or not, I have never had a single problem with this.

Cannot understand why anyone would buy a fake if you either do not like watches or can't afford the real thing stay away.I have had a rolex since i was 16 and have never been taken by a fake it's sad when you point out to someone they have a fake and they argue that it's real, pathetic by the way the case always gives it away real ones have have distinct edges round as they are pressed from a solid ingot of whichever metal they are made from at 60 tons per square inch

My wife buys people fake watches regularly from NYC. They're all over up there. Also check Ebay, you'd be surprised what you find. The sellers that say 'this watch was a gift, I can't guarantee authenticity' are usually saying 'it's fake'.

I did a bit more checking around. I even found a site that "rates" and gives actual buyer feedback on different sources for replicas.

These guys sell actual swiss replicas that are duplicates in every way. One guy said his jeweler could not tell the difference (his had no diamonds). They use real gold, but cubic zirconia in place of diamonds.

Good find Terry - those look like the ones that I bought, except I didn't see the second one I purchased (gold bezel, white face, alligator straps)

I'm going to send that link to some friends...

Dave.... You wanna sell it? Or perhaps you know how to get another? Hmmmmmmmm?

I dont care about watches that much and actually dont wear one at all right now. However, thats a very sharp item! I would never pony up $5000 for a watch, but a few hundred for a high quality fake sounds like fun!

BTW: what do you think of this:

Here's the Daytona I picked up in Tokyo (Ueno)"under the tracks" near the train station. The guy was asking $200 for them, I paid $140. He had submariners, Explorers, etc. Upload Keeps excellent time, better than my Omega Speedmaster. I bought this almost 4 years ago.

I've got a knock off Rolex Daytona (white dial) from good ol' China. Looks real and even has the sweeping hand as opposed to quartz, however, the quality of the band gives away that it's a fake. Fun watch to own, but I'd rather wear my authentic Omega. Huge difference in the way it feels.

I like the knock off I bought last year in Shanghai for $6.00. It keeps great time. I actually bought ten of them. When somebody looks at it and says 'Hey, thats a nice watch', I take it off and tell them that I am actually sick of this watch because my ex bought it for me. At that time, I toss them the watch and say'Here, you can have it'!..It's pretty fun! I am down to four watches. All but two people have gotten back to me and said its fake! A good joke for six bucks!

I've got both and both are pretty good. The swiss came with the boxes, tags, paperwork, etc. I had it sized by a jeweler, who used to work with Rolex Daytonas for years and he couldn't tell the difference. After studying it under a light w/magnification for a minute, he spotted that on the real ones, the inner dials are slightly raised. He was so impressed that he called the rest of his co-workers out to inspect it.

The places that sell them come and go, with varying degrees of reliability...you take your chances and I guess I got lucky. My father tried to order one from them the next week and they were out of business.

I was reading threw that other watch thread and I am really curious about replica rolexs. I did some research out there on the internet and there even seems to be different grades with swiss grade 1 being the highest. It seems as if the Jap Grade 1 seems to be the best bargin as a price point watch? Does anyone have any experience with these? If you own one, how real does it look? Thanks!
