Hey Ron,

Looks like that's not all we have in common! :-)

Yes, Pateks can be a totally different exercise in collecting. The good news is they are also a profitable endeavor if you know the game.

(Said in good humor... and truth) Wife??? What are those? Do they come with a warranty? Are these Wife things cheaper to maintain than a Ferrari? Are they collectable? Do you get a good pay back on your Wife investment? Just trying to understand this Wife thing as opposed to, say, a four-girlfriend thing. All help is always appreciated.

Enjoy Your Time,

The first problem is that you are using .BMP format which is uncompressed so your file sizes are rather larger even for a relatively small picture. It would also appear that the board software does not automatically pop up .BMPs Are you using a Windows machine? Open up your pics in the "Paint" programs and "save as" a .JPG which compresses the image. Then upload the .JPG

Upload

Your watch picture in .BMP format was 197k, by simply saving in .JPG format it is now 16k.

That should do it.

This is getting really frustrating. I've resized it, but each time I try to upload it, I'm told it's too big.

Damnit!!!

Neb
At what point are you having problems? Here are some basic instructions, sorry if this is overly simplistic.

You want to make sure the pic is within size limits 640 X 640 pixels. If you are unsure open it in MS Paint, hit the "image" pulldown menue then click on "attributes". Hitting ctrl + e will also accomplish the same. Don't change the numbers from the "attributes" window as it will chop the pic rather than scale it down. To shrink your pic down go to "stretch/skew" under the "image" pulldown menu. Make the horizontal & vertical percentages smaller to shrink the pic. Be sure to use the same % in both or your pic will look funny then hit "ok". Then save your pic as a .JPG if it is not already.

To post: Hit the "upload attachment" button. then hit the browse button when the "Add Image or Attachment" box pops up. Find the pic and hit the open button which puts you back to the "Add Image or Attachment" box and there will be a file path to the left of the "borowse" button. Then click the "upload" button. Wait into it says "file loaded" and click the "close" button. You will have a little piece of code in your message that looks kind of like this:

/popgif(306229,Upload)

Hit the "preview/post message" button and you should see your picture previewed like any other post. Then hit the "post this message" button.

Taek -

The one I saw in Vegas was a darker color than the pic posted here.

Like you, I always prefered Omega to Breitling (I'm wearing a GMT right now), but this damn Breitling really impressed me. I'd even seen it a few times in a few mags and wasn't impressed. It wasn't until I saw the beast that I really liked it.

While I'm sure Breitling is making a WG version, I'm pretty sure most of them are SS.

Keep in mind, though, that if you are a small guy, the 43mm (I think it's 43) dial will look HUGE on your arm. I'm a fairly big dude (6'1", 220lbs), and my GMT's 38mm dial looks kinda small on my wrist.

See if you can find one in person and check it out. If you like sporty, you'll like this watch.

Cheers.

Pateks, Breguets, et al are all good. Just don't get the wife involved. They like the shiny ones. Now THOSE...I digress...

Nebula,

Maybe I should take a look. They come in WG or is that SS? I do like their "Pilot" bracelet. I wanted a sporty watch but opted for the Omega instead of the Breitling.

Cheers

I was never a big fan of the Breitling Bentley until I saw it in person. Absolutely STUNNING watch!

And Steven, I know WELL ENOUGH to stay away from the Pateks, Breugets, and Audemars. I am a MERE MORTAL, of course.

And damnit! I wanna post this pic! Can ayone help?

>> MOMO has watches too.<<

I saw some of the momo ferrari watches at the ferrari supestore in maranello, and I've got to admit, they're pretty, but outrageously expenisve for a watch brand that hasn't got the clout to back the cost.

Taek, I'm pretty sure I've seen Porsche Design watches, but I don't know who makes the actual timepiece.

MOMO has watches too.

Hmmm...

Not a big fan of the hands on the Breitling Bentley. I kind of wish these were made a bit better.

What other car manufacture/watch manufacture ties are out there? Apparently Bentley and Breitling is new. I know of GP and Ferrari (never cared for many of those models).

You are definitely not alone! I'd LOVE to own a real Heuer Monaco like McQueen wore in LeMans (however, I'm not a fan of that blue McQueen version they produced). I also really love that Ventura V-matic Loga

http://www.ventura.ch/vmat_7.htm

However, my father, who is a psychologist, has always tried to inculcate the virtues of living simply and not "needing" anything. It's great to have goals (like Ferrari's!!), but I'm always careful not to let them become needs. It can be difficult in LA, where you're constantly surrounded by wealth and poverty. I probably see an average of five Ferrari's a day here, and hope one day to have one myself, but I'm still deliriously happy with my M3 (and realize how lucky I am to even have it!)

Ok, removing soapbox and standing down...

I also have the problem "being happy with what I have." I'm very prone to scheming and planning the next big thing. I live perpetually for the future.

Hence chatting on a Ferrari site 34 months before buying :-).

MarkPDX, that is a nice looking watch.

Nebula, don't worry, it's a good thing to be unsatisfied. I do the same thing with cigars. I can sit down and smoke one while looking around at several lifetimes worth of smokes and I still think about the ones I don't have. Same goes for other areas of my life as well. Most of us here are very competitive. I thrive on it, God forbid the day I am satisfied with everything. What is a warrior to do when there is nothing left to conquer?

Just picked up a white gold Hampton Spirit on a
brown leather strap. I am very happy with it and
I get alot of compliments on it.

The next conquest is the Lange and Sohne
"Lange 1" Tourbillon. Platinum with silver dial.

I've always wanted a monaco-- very stunning watch. However, being a novice, what should one expect to pay for the leath band variety? Also, what's the concensus on baume-mercier timepieces?

Its a sickness like our cars. The barrier to entry is low and therefore easy to overindulge. Only problem, when its all said and done, who wants to be a slave to time? For me, Im running necked, tired of the Rolex, patek, Franck Muller and Cartier.

About two months ago, my g/f bought me the watch I had been drooling over for years. Here's a pic of it (not mine....I don't have a digital cam).

[sh!t, I can't figure out hwo to post this damn image.]

Anyway, this is my third nice watch, the first being a blue Tag Kirium (no longer own) and an Omega Seamaster auto (no longer own).

I LOVE this watch. I thought (stupidly) that it was the last watch I would ever buy.

Of course, my eye has been wandering! Now, I'm having trouble trying to stop imagining a Breitling Bently Lemans watch on my wrist, as well as a Tag Monaco.

This is a sickness! I am now convinced, after three watched, that I will never be satisfied.

Ah well.
