I was pretty suprised a few months ago when I went up in a Steerman that a buddy of mine owns. I was doing several rolls, loops, spins, hammerheads, etc. and it hit me pretty good. At that time, I never thought I would have a problem with park rides.

If you have a fatty meal beforehand like bacon and eggs it gives the stomach a lining and the acids something to work with. So I have been told, anyway, it seems to work for me for aircraft aerobatics.

Mark, you make an interesting point. I have noticed the same thing at the racetrack. If I ride with someone I can hardly wait to get out of the car and I can feel my stomach all over the place. If I am behind the wheel controlling the motion I feel fine.

Maybe as we get older we see/face our mortality?

Used to love roller coasters, after injuring my neck skiing....oh well

btw, did anyone see the story last week about the r/c maintenance guy who got his hair stuck in the wheels, dragged up 40 feet into the air, then fell to his death? Ouch!

I wonder if its weight gain? G-force is harder on a bigger body. People tend to gain 10 pounds for every 10years they age.

I have a trick I use on the new super fast coasters. I use to get scared. But then I tried moving my feet like I was pressing on the gas and moving my hands like I was steering. All of the sudden the coaster wasn't fast enough. It realy makes a huge differance.

My stomach is fine but I've noticed that I get this odd ticklie feeling below my balls in any kind of scary situation. Even watching guys bail off their dirt bikes in mid-air on tv I'll get it in that moment where you are thinking "oh, this is not going to be good". What the hell is that all about? Maybe this is normal and is why we as younger surfer/skaters used to say that "you just have to put your balls in your back pocket and go for it", ha! But it's a new one to me.

At near-f-f-f-f-forty-three, the only rides I could handle anymore are the Spine Stretcher, The Back Popper and her and her and her...

Anything else'd probably be just as ruinous to my system as it appears to have been for PeterS.

Tillman / Ed...Nope, it's the exact same rides at the same park I went on 10-12 years ago and never hit me like they did yesterday.

The rides today are simply faster, higher, better than the ones 10 years ago.

statistically speaking, i'm sure the average amusement park ride is WAY less dangerous than driving at the speeds we do in these stupid cars on highways and tracks.

Don't you think that it's related to the fact that you, like most of us, probably have ten times as much responsibility as you did 10 years ago? Get hurt now and you're really screwed -- the entire family depends on you. It's a thought.

This is not a problem, it's an opportunity! Let your wife take the kids on the ride whilst you scope the pretty young tangs passing by while sipping cold suds.

this is an excellent question that i've always wondered about. i too am less tolerant of these sorts of things with age. i can deal with roller coasters still, but anything that SPINS makes me want to lose my lunch really quickly. my 3 year old will let me spin him for hours on end (or so it would seem). does something medically change in our inner ear as we grow older? or something like that?

doody.

I am 44. I spent the day at Great America yesterday. Just wondering why my stomach does not do so well with the fast rides like it did ten years ago. Anyone else have this problem?
