Dan- very well put. There are places and things to see in this world that will blow your mind, but in the end, the Bay Area is just an awesome blend (listen to me, sound like a bloody coffee commercial!) Best! Ben. |

I hear you, Ben! I mean, travelling everywhere, you realize two things a) most places are really cool, but b) they still can't beat the BA. --Dan |

Dan- that's just one reason I'll ALWAYS call the Bay Area/ CA home. Every time I leave, ie to go on 'vacation' or something, I'm reminded anew upon my return why home prices are so high here These days, I vacation in my own back yard! Best! Ben. |

Ben, Crazy stuff! By the way, let them laugh - when they're sitting in 100% humidity, we're laughing. Or anything below 50 deg F. --Dan |

While visiting relatives in the georgeous rural Vermont foothills, an (aparently, I'm a spoiled CA native!) altogether common lightning storm appeared in an otherwise blue-sky summer day. While headed inside, I *FELT* lightning strike a tree not 100 yards away from us. I suppose I saw it and heard it too, but what I remenber is the feeling... I have never felt anything like it in my life, the compression in my chest from the shockwave that blew the tree apart was just staggaring. It felt like the entire world was made of rubber and just BOUNCED on my lungs. To say it scared the living crap out of me would be puting it mildly! I still love lightning though, something strangely romantic and cataclysmic about it. Best! Ben. PS: all the east coasters are laughing their buns clean off at us right now! |

Noel, My friend on the roof...well..he was about 10 miles away. He was all the away across the valley from it, and he was seeing the same thing as me. Stars above our heads. It was a trip. Dan, The move has been a huge relief. I moved into a penthouse with one roommate. So, we both basically have 2 Master Suites. Its really cool, and close to my favorite establishment for thirst. One thing that sucks.....SJSU students just moved in in other buildings around us, so, the nightly noise as raised slightly...oh well... |

Definetly bizarre. Not in this country, but many years back (I think I was 11 or 12) I was in the middle of a lightning shower...literally an hour or so of lightining blazes - two at a time quite a bit. It was cloudy, but no rain, etc. So I go back in the house with some cousins (a few of us were left at a house alone, and we had a power failure) - and after maybe 5 minutes, we heard what had to be the most awesome roll of thunder I had ever heard. It was as if the whole hour's worth of thunder had aggregated into one - shook the house to say the least. I was expecting something like that last night, but nothing happened. Oh well. --Dan PS: Congrats ont he move. How're you diggin the new pad?

Cool pix but why would someone want to go on the roof in the middle of a thunderstorm? |

Dan, I just moved to Downtown San Jose. That building to the left on the pics is the new Martin Luther King Library @ SJSU. So, all of those shots are looking east at the foothills. A friend in South SJ got on top of his roof and could see it from the ground up. Pretty cool stuff since we dont get it that often...... |

Rosso: very strange. I didn't hear a thing, and there was definetly lightning within close proximity. (I was driving up from Atherton to home in Hillsborough, and I noticed it in both places). SO was it a storm then? I see absolutely no clouds to aorund to suggest there was one, nor is any ground wet, etc. --Confused Dan |

Dan, Down here, the thunder was 2-3 seconds away. Not as loud as I have heard in the other storms, but it was there. |

Wow, those are totally sharp for a phone!! Yeah, that was very strange. It went on for quite a while. Art: did you hear any thunder to accompany the strikes? I heard absolutely nothing. --Dan |
