I have stayed at the Gritti Palace, Danieli(twice), Cipriani, and the Grunderwald. The Gritti is the best for the view from the terrace/dinning room right on the Grand Canal. The Danieli was also excellent and very close to the action at the Piazza San Marco. The Cipriani was fine but on the Lido, too quiet and far from the action in my view. If I wanted a rest or beach resort I wouldn't pick Venice. The Grunderwald was OK but again a bit out of the way. If I went back, it would be the Gritti. |

i just got back about three weeks ago, it is a fantastic place! I stayed at the Hotel Cipriani which is Great but very $$$$$$$$$. It is worth your while to call the Hotel and get a reservation at the more casual of the two hotel restaurants the CHIP. The Chip sits out on the water and is resonably priced for a fantastic meal. You pick up the hotels private boat at San Marco Square and it will drop you off after dinner. Just get lost on foot and explore, don't miss the Doge Palace and the adjacent tour of the Prison. Also a trip to Murano is a must. |

The Lido is a nice choice of place to stay. If you stay at the same hotel we did (the Des Bains-Sheraton/Starwood) you get a free water taxi (nice!) ride over to San Marco. You would otherwise easily pay $75+ for this ride- it's about the best view you can get of the entire lagoon! Indeed you also have the Lido beach although Nov. may be a bit cold. Bring COMFORTABLE shoes and be ready to WALK! Please post your experience based Maranello reccommendations as we are headed back in May'04. |

Michael Just walk. Explore it all on foot. Get a map and guide book (it's worth it)and see each area of the city. It's one of the best places we have ever been for a short break (our wedding anniversary). I agree that with wmhart that the Peggy Guggenheim is great. There are so many Titians and Tinterettos in churches that we got a little tired of them. Go to shopping; go to Harry's Bar (just so you can say you did); take a high speed water taxi to and from the airport; visit the islands and buy some glass; visit whatever art show (usually modern)they have on at the arsenal; try some of the musical events; look out from the bridge of sighs; the list goes on. November is probably a good time because you will actually be able to move in the streets. I'll add some pictures in a follow up post when I have resized them. |

DES, I understand your concerns, but Venezia Lido is a short ferry ride away and you can drive there. They have a beach too! |

LOL, Gus...! i have streets here and still can't drive the Scuderia Challenge Imitazione...! ...but you're really close... too close, i guess, to make you keep guessing... It's because there's no streets and i can't drive, period. i would go nuts. It seems like a beutiful city from the pictures i've seen, but i could never live in Venice; hell, i don't think i could stay there for more than a few days... |

DES, LOL! I'm still not letting her live that one down. Alright, let me try another guess. Is it because, without streets, you could never drive the 'Scuderia Saturn' there? |

Thanks to everyone for the advice... We're probably going to be staying just outside the Piazza San Marco, and I'm sure we'll wander off on Friday when we arrive. I'm going to pick up Vaporetto 13 today as long as Barnes and Noble has it! DES - My guess... you couldn't live in Venice because you'd spend all your Euros going back and forth to Maranello every weekend! |

John, let's wait for some guesses... The wooden F50 is awesome, but it's still a boat... |

We took the Orient Express to Venice. It was great. The big time hotels are cheaper off season. We had a magnificent suite of rooms at the Danieli, for little more than the cost of an average expensive room. The food, architecture, and art are all wonderful. I don't know how cold it will be where you are there (the weather has been unseasonably warm, as you know), but if you guys have never been to Venice, take a gondola tour. It sounds hokey, but its the best way to see Venice, and its quite relaxing. Peggy Guggenheim's museum is also worth a trip. Read Vaporetto (sp) 13 before you go. It will get you in the mood. I'm sure others will have some good tips as well. |

Michael, Firstly, as far as I've heard, you not only need to be an owner of an F-car, but also need to contact FNA well in advance because you basically get invited on a tour at the factory's convenience. As far as Venice is concerned, do it! It's a wonderful city. I don't have any specific destinations to recommmend to you, but I will give you the advice that a Venetian native gave me one time. Start off in Piazza San Marco and purposely get lost. Venice is made up of a series of islands so you will not end up on the outskirts of town somewhere. If you try to get lost in the canals, you will see so many things that are not on a tourist map, and you'll have a lot of fun! -Augustine |

I'm most likely taking my girlfriend to Venice for her birthday... we're planning on going Thanksgiving week, so that neither of us has to take off from work as long. I plan on going to Maranello for one of the days we're there (2 hour trip, I believe?), but I'm still trying to get a rough idea for the rest of the days. We're staying 4 nights. The Opera is an idea, but it looks like the selection is pretty limited in November. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? The tour books tell a lot, but I'm wondering about first hand experiences. I know this has also been discussed ad nauseum, but you -must- be a Ferrari owner to tour the factory, right? Or is it at all possible to get a tour? Thanks in advance.
