I agree with Darth on this... try Progressive. I was with GEICO for about 6 years for my '95 cherokee and my '82 308i. Then I sold the 308 and got my TR. GEICO wouldn't insure the TR at all!! (And my record is not bad at all. I currently have 1 speeding ticket in the last 4 years). I went to an agent who ran some numbers from various insurance carriers. Progressive was on the lower end of the cost and in the upper middle in customer service satisfaction. 6 months later, I've had no problems with Progressive.

Hmmm, it's been so long I can't recall the details, but I know I was eligible and they tried for years to get me to join. My grandfather was pretty high up in the Navy. Anyway, once I get some time, I'll look into it and be sure to let you know what I find out :-)

Chris, when I called, they said I wasn't eligible.....my grandfather was a Naval Officer and My Brother is an Officer in the Marines...they said my parents had to be.....of course, if your parents are members because of your Grandpa, then you can be a member based on theirs.....unfortunately my mother or father never took advantage of this perk.......errrrrrrr

usaa is not the cheapest, but their service and handling of claims is first class. plus, you almost always get a check back at the end of the year which closes the premium gap that much more.

i lost 2 cars in allison (355 and 325) and had a check from them in 6 days. they even asked whether i wanted to have the bmw fixed or totalled. for me, the perks far outweigh the slightly higher premiums.

Thanks All,

I'm going to explore all of these options. Thanks to my Grandfather, I am elegible for USAA and they used to pursue me pretty agressively, but when I explored different companies on my last vehicle, no one could come close to the rate I had/have with AAA. If that is still the case, I'll probably stay with them, assuming things don't continue to worsen.

Thanks again,
~Chris

PS - Thomas, thanks for that site...I was thinking of starting one like that myself after this :-)

don't waste your time with the president, go directly to the state insurance board or other applicable regulatory body. as stubborn as insurance companies are, none want to have the insurance board or AG's office breathing down their necks. good luck!

sees?? at least they coulda given you godiva!

well, I dont know anymore what a sportscar is, but safeco covers my 456, Daytona, XK8 and XJR. The rates seem competitive to me. Interestingly they think the xk8 is a high performance car and the XJR is not, but the rates seem ok to me.

I switched from Allstate to Progressive. Much better rates. I haven't had a claim so I can't vouch for that aspect.

We had horrible service from State Farm. It really depends on your agent. We have had nothing but great service from Allstate.

That being said the best service I ever had was Safeco. We had several large claims in a row without them raising rates. The only problem is no sports cars allowed. So rather than multiple policies went with Allstate for everything.

If anyone in your family was a commissioned officer or non com you could get USAA-the best ins co in the US IMO.

I've been with State Farm for 12 years and can't say enough good things about them.

Avoid Allstate like a plague. They are by far the worst, most crooked, dihonest company I and my wife have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Cancelling auto insurance in California is strickly covered by the Vehicle and Insurance Codes. If I know CSAA, they didn't follow the law, and you probably are still legally insured by them.

I'd go to a better carrier, such as State Farm, etc. CSAA is legal insurance, but if you ever have a problem, you're life will be miserable.

Long story short - AAA has cancelled my auto insurance policy due to errors on their part twice in the last four months. In each case, I had been driving for more than a month without insurance (unbeknownst to me). This resulted from my having moved back to LA after 8 months on location for a film. They had all of my new information, but for some reason kept sending all billing and cancellation notices to a now non-existent production office back in Alabama. It has taken hours and hours of phone calls, stress and headaches to sort this out, and I even had to track down and go to their offices in person - all because they can't seem to get their databases straight (in fact, the last supervisor I talked to said that he had dealt with this same problem earlier that same day; once he checked the scanned documents and confirmed they were all sent to the wrong address, he had me reinstated flat with no lapse in coverage).

I wrote the president of the company and the head of customer service (believe me, there is A LOT of customer svs nightmares that I'm leaving out). I have been with them 16 years and have always maintained a perfect driving record. I asked for a partial credit on my policy and the best they could offer after all of this madness was a gift certificate for some Sees candy - pathetic.

As such, I'm looking to explore other insurance options and wanted to see who you might recommend. It would be nice to save some $, but I'd like to feel they are reliable, should I ever need them for a claim.

Thanks in advance,
~Chris
