Dan,

Good question! I've always wondered what a "grip" was. Isn't there something called a gaffer or something? I think I saw it rolling on credits once. What the hell is that?

Cheers

Chris,
That is interesting. I am not a Britney fan (U2 is pretty much the only entertainment based group/person that I really like) but I would not be surprised if her managers start redirecting her efforts toward a more "hip," urban crowd. Entertainment is so marketing driven that products seem to change regularly in order to sell to whomever is deemed the more marketable segment for a particular singer/actor, etc. The other interesting thing is that I don't think that Britney can play any intruments or write music (not lyrics, music) which means that her ability to create songs that change with her personality is limited. I find the whole marketing side of that industry fascinating.

Ryan, I can assure you Britney definitely smokes...literally every time I saw her, she was standing outside the soundstage puffing away. I asked a "Britney fan" on our crew about that as well, and he said that in the last year she has let that all slide. I remember there being some big deal about it a long time ago when some paparazzi snapped a photo of her smoking. Lol - I feel like one of those Enquirer insiders :-)

It would be very interesting if Britney smoked. You would think that her handlers/managers would not want her to do anything in public that would depart from the image that she portrays to her target market - 12-18 year old girls. Although she did kiss Madonna, so maybe there is going to be a marketing shift and with her next album she will be going for different age group.

BTW, I will be in LA next week if there are any F chat events happening.

They are the guys who move and help set up all the gear and equipment. It's hard work and long hours. If you've ever seen a production filming on location, you've no doubt noticed all the trucks nearby -there's an amazing amount of equipment to pull off a production - dolly tracks, C stands, flags, lights, etc.

I'll never forget, on Cast Away, we were filming on a small island that was a 1.5 hour boat ride from the main island, and out there in the middle of nowhere is a giant technocrane sitting on a platform out in the surf!

Ron,

I'm assuming they were rehearsing and/or filming promos. There were a lot of dancers in sexy outfits parading around...better than looking at grips :-)

Chris Rock was hilarious!!!
"Today is the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech. I'm so glad to see that it has come true." Rock said this after a performance by several rappers. Made me laugh for a while.

Yeah, they've all been hanging outside my door on the lot the past couple weeks; lots of enormous 400lb bodyguards, Bling Bling SUV's parked all askew, and Britney constantly hanging outside the stage door smoking...

Did you hear Lebron James talk? I bet he can't read! I'm surprised they didn't make him throw out his gum.

I usually hate these shows but Rock is hilarious tonight.

Anyone else watching? If you missed the opening you missed Britney Spears and Madonna kiss as well as Madonna and Christina Agulera (sp), very impressive.
