Arlie - that was my point. Janis was definitely not good looking, therefore would not be marketable in today's music scene. She would not get signed by a major label. However, she had an awesome, powerful, ballsy voice. Seriously - get Big Brother and the Holding Company's album "Cheap Thrills" and listen to her performances. Mick is an average singer at best. Neil Young and Bob Dylan are not what we'd call good singers, however, I'm not aware of anyone today that writes lyrics like they used to. | ||

A great voice doesn't have to be a pure and clean voice. Look at Macy Gray as of recent? I think Janis is one of the top singers of all time. At minimum she had emotion and intensity behind her music. Also a train on a train.  | ||

Nope, she can't sing. But then again, in this day of image being everything and studio sleight-of-hand taking care of the sound, none of these little tarts can sing. Can you imagine a great voice like Janis Joplin trying to get a record deal today? Sad, but mainstream music has very little to do with music anymore. DGS - I just saw the original Buffy the other day on an awful made-for-tv movie (crazed shark terrorizes hapless residents on bayou backwaters) and she still looks great. Kristy Swanson is her name I think? | ||

YES! Everyone rips the new slut image, but i find it extremely attractive.
