Been a long, long while since I hung up the rootinest, tootinest spurs. Unless I'm mistaken, you went the way of the safflower. Dove love it. Plan on going out for pheasant later? Nothing quite like seeing a pheasant wait until the last second to ruffle feathers. |

Peter, Cool thing about your dog. I can't wait till my little boys get older so they can go with us and most importantly retrieve the birds for me. |

Rob, LMAO . Can't help but whine, my fat ass was sweating up a storm. At 5 in the morning it was 90 degrees . We limited out early both days , here in Calif we are allowed 10 per day . Never gone for ducks but went fishing for my first time. Damn catfish we caught were still alive two hours after we pulled them out of the water. Thomas, Thanks for the tip. No we were down south in the Imperial area near the Salton Sea. All that work for such little meat. Tasty but went quick. P people E eating T tasty A animals Life member

I went out last year with a friend. He was amazed that when my dog went to get a bird we shot over the lake, it tip-toed on top of the water to get the bird and tip-toed back on top of the water and put the bird down at my feet. After my friend saw this about six times, he asked me 'whats up with that'? I told him that could never teach that damn dog how to swim |

Where are you headed? Southern San Joaquin Valley? Temps seem to match. If so, try Fountain Springs if you're not depending on Safflower cuts which are in the nearby lowlands. When I was a Dove moiderizer, we'd go here if it had been hot in the valley, and have a field day. Good times in scenic surroundings. Amongst other areas, the article below covers the No. portion of SJ Valley. If staying in So. Cal. scroll to SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA http://www.californiagameandfish.com/ca_aa090802a/ Should be a much better opener than in last few years - @ 5 yrs. ago, my Pop said there were more Dove (2 dozen, at any given moment) in Los Feliz (on a a vacant lot next to where I used to live) than he'd seen in Tulare County during a wretched, dry season. |

Stop bitching, hunting is about being in the great outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow and other adverse conditions being one with nature and then killing it. Not dove hunting this year. I grew up hunting doves in Kansas, so after moving to Texas I was very disappointed. However, I do like the duck hunting better down here. I really do love dove hunting, but hunting 4 hours for 2-3 birds isn't worth it. In Kansas we would limit 15 within 90 minutes. That puts some meat on the table. I'm looking forward to a good duck season this year, supposedly more birds than last. Just hope we get some cold and freezes down to Okie so that the birds come to Tejas.

Anyone going out for the opener ? The weather report where we are going shows over 105 degrees for the time we will be there. I must have been smoking some to agree to this. My delicate flower a$$ is going to fry. |
