I just read that story in Wired today while wasting time at a bookstore. I was interested because I'm involved in a company selling diamond jewelry on the internet. I'll ask the jeweler/designer what he thinks about the future of the market!

Although this thread has already been taken away by dumb posts, I just thought I'd chime in that several large diamond finds have been made by companies in Canada - they're small-time with 'only' $400 million-ish in finds so far, but there's apparently hopes for much larger fields... they're being sold as "Canadia" brand, or 'snow' diamonds (as opposed to African 'blood' diamonds).

Another Gary Green classic! Lol - great answer Thomas.

It was probably another lame attempt at humor without forethought...he probably stayed up all night feverishly trying to rationalize it.

I see, so it's a linguistic issue? diamond mines :: diamonds mine
The implications are staggering (to keep from falling into the gutter.)

Just give your impatient lady a chunk of coal, and tell her it's a "DIY kit".

http://www.pvhs.chico.k12.ca.us/~bsilva/projects/scramble/rhodes.htm

Being a member of a large family, instead of attending a university, Rhodes went to South Africa in 1870 to be a farmer with his brother. He ended up a diamond miner while receiving a degree from Oxford. By 1888 Rhodes managed to solidly establish the De Beers consolidated Mines, Ltd. In 1891 the company owned ninety percent of the world's diamond mines.

It's the only one to have when dealing with trolls such as yourself.

Mandatory Reading For Trolls:
tip type="Interpersonal Communication/Lubrication"/
Moving parts in rubbing contact require lubrication to avoid excessive wear. Honorifics and formal politeness provide lubrication where people rub together. Often the very young, the untravelled, the naive, the unsophisticated deplore these formalities as 'empty', 'meaningless', or 'dishonest' and scorn to use them. No matter how 'pure' their motives, they thereby throw sand into machinery that does not woik too well at best.
/tip type="Interpersonal Communication/Lubrication"

The treatment you receive here is exactly what you receive in any other web forum, news group, discussion board, or in real life when you barge into a room, society or organisation full of other people. There is a basic technique called "lurking" employed online; read any guide to netiquette and it will tell you to read a forum for around 2 weeks before posting so you can work out what is acceptable and desirable. So don't claim this is some kind of forum of evil. If you want people to like you unconditionally, you have to pay them. Sorry.

(See RFC 1855 for more information -- see link. It suggests reading for one to two months before posting.)

G. Green; while I dread the prospect of wasting time with trolls such as yourself, I'll answer your dumbass question.

Google:
http://www.google.com/search?q=De+beers+diamonds&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&start=10&sa=N

which led me to:
http://www.aaabooksearch.com/Book/0374524262

thus answering your dumbass question.

*Duuuuuuuuh* time:
If you knew that:
"These are the reasons why my question is pertinent.

1. Jews have a monopoly on a lot of Industries through out the world.
2. The state of Israel supported apartheid before it was abolished in South Africa.
3. The country of Israel is the leading cutter of diamonds in the world."

( with the disclaimer of: )
"These facts are not meant to be anti-semetic. They are the facts, nothing else."

Then why the f*ck ask? Did you expect to see a Star of David on their website? *or* This Company is owned by Jews! *or* These diamonds are kosher! Puh-leaze. Don't pretend everybody is as stupid as you.
Obviously you have your mind up and just like mucking up perfectly good threads with your own thinly veiled spite.

If trolls like you want spite, you'll be given spite, without it being disguised as anything but spite.

Don't bother with any more lame-ass excuses as to what you meant.

Just go away.

If you're confused about where to go, here's the 490,000,000 most popular sites in the entire world, listed in order:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22http%3A%22&btnG=Google+Search

That oughta keep the schmuck busy for a while.

G.Green,
IMO, when one has to resort to the "Religion Card" in order to merely get a rise out of others...one should realize that they are, in fact, at the bottom of their own barrel, reinvent/rename themselves and try again.

DeBeers was founded by Cecil Rhodes, an Englishman. He is also the namesake of the "Rhodes" scholarship, awarded by Oxford University.

To answer G. Green's question, the company is zealously controlled by, what I believe to be Ashkinazem Jews (sp)?

Personally I think the whole thing is a farce. Buy South African, who cares? I saw a yellow diamond weighing 17.4 carats (that's right) and the price was only $450k (negotiable). The same diamond from DB would be untold tens of millions.

DeBeers thinks that the fact that people will care that an identical stone was created in a lab versus dug out of a mine & people will pay twice as much for a natural diamond. I think DB is high. Apollo Diamonds is the other Co, a famous jeweler stated that their diamonds where better than natural, perfect, completely flawless. I guess DB thinks its flawed natural diamonds will be worth more than these also LOL

Apollo is planning on making diamond wafers 12" around in a few years for the computer industry, that is cool. Maybe in a few decades spacecraft will have diamond windows :-) 1 step closer to the Starship Enterprise

Everybody's blaming Debeers, when it's the retarded populace of this planet that continues to spend "two months salary" on an artificially expensive rock.

As far as I'm concerned, Debeers deserves whatever money idiots are willing to give them.

De Beers is a London based Co, dunno what religion the owners are.

Its about time DeBeers gets a reality check, I rewfuse to buy diamonds cus of the retarded prices when I KNOW they arent worth anywhere near that much, Hmmm same could be said for Ferraris I guess :-) Except DeBeers probably makes profits that would make Ferrari look like the Salvation Army

Hint: I found the answer via Google.

I suggest you do the same rather than routinely asking dumbass questions.

Rob:

De Beers has over $5B 'worth' withheld from the market. If ever there was a monopoly that needed breaking, this is it.

Interestingly enough, some are doing it, and getting stupidly loaded in the process:

I took a class on fine jewlery and fine gems, if natural diamonds had a truely free martket they wouldn't be worth much at all. The artificially controlled supply (I guess by De Beers) keeps the prices high as you say.

Cheapest place to buy diamonds is the newspaper classifieds. Always a heavy supply of divorcees.

Have you guys picked up the latest edition of WIRED magazine ? There are 2 new companies in the US creating gem grade diamonds using artificial means. 1 place, Gemesis in FL, is already selling high grade yellow diamonds to the public at 50% of what the bungholes DeBeers want. The other place is working on jewelry quality diamonds as well but they are only doing that to finance thier real interest which is making diamond microchips for computers!!!!!! They say the new diamond chips are well into prototype stage. The benefit of a diamond microchip is that it can withstand heat many times what a silicon wafer can. Silicon chip computers are limited in speed by the heat the silicon wafers can withstand so computer manufacturers will soon have to use diamond microchips to keep up with the competition. Seems SONY has a big head start in this field.

Too bad both companies are still privately held
