I have a Sony Clie (NX70) and I was just looking for info on GPS for my palm the other day. From what I've read, the Holux GPS system with Mapopolis Navigator 1.10 is incredible. Actually, I think there's a package that includes both.

FWIW, I have the Garmin eMap handheld in my Chevy Silverado. Great battery life when I pull it out for the trails, otherwise it stays on the 12v adapter. I've thought about getting an external antenna but frankly I've never needed it. I lose the satellites in tunnels and downtown next to skyscrapers, but other than that -- it's great. Comes with a CD for your PC that can download street level detail to the GPS.

In addition to street maps and addresses, you can find features such as restaurants, auto repair, banks, churches, etc. etc. MapSource MetroGuide USA. It has come in VERY handy while traveling with the kids and someone gets hungry. "Honey, there is a BK 2.574 miles at 340 degrees." It doesn't do street navigation -- just straight as an arrow navigation. Oh well. I can live with that.

Have fun and don't get lost.

IIRC, the 3600 battery only lasts about 3 hours...that's not too good imho. Also, they should've added bluetooth or wifi. I know you can do an SD card for it, but nevertheless, it would be nice to have it built in...especially In light of HP including Bluetooth as a standard feature these days.

I just ordered the Garmin iQue 3600 today. Adam, per your suggestion and others, I am going to order the $20.00 dollar external antenna from gpsgeek.com. Also I found a forum dedicated to this unit located at http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=108

Thanks for everyones input.

Just bought one (the Garmin 3600) and is is very good, except it will not work in the car without an internal antenna. It cannot see the satelites through the roof. Not a problem for me in he FCar, PCar and Hummer, but will not work in the Benz.

Dear Lloyd,

Quite frankly you can't go wrong with Garmin products. I have several. I find the eTrek's to be an excellent value. The hand helds tend not to work well inside cars or in crowded urban areas. The clocks in even the cheapest Garmins trend are very accurate. In GPS clock accuracy is really what counts.

Go to PalmBlvd.com for the 3600. It has issues.I plan on getting the next generation Garmin .
I have a Street Pilot Deluxe in one of my cars, great system. The great thing about it is that it captures top speed, no more BS about claiming you went 200mph . We use that feature every few months when we get together to drive like hooligans.

I am looking for recommendations on a handheld GPS system. I anticipate using it primarily in the car, but would like the option of using it on the trail. I am intrigued by the Garmin iQue 3600 PDA/GPS Handheld System pictured below. It is a combination PDA and GPS unit. The only significant downside I am aware of is the poor battery life. I also am considering the Magellan Meridian Platinum, but it does not appear to give you the detailed street by street directions advising you in advance of a turn as does the iQue. I have done a fair bit of research and am open to other options. I would appreciate any input from actual users, including your experience with map availability for the various units. Thanks.
