Ron, it doesn't stand for anything. Listen to the lyrics and then read the title backward and you'll understand:

You won't find me knocking at your door
I've known forever you don't love me no more
If you don't want to lay there with your mouth shut tight
I'm getting myself together, yes, I'm leaving tonight

You ain't gonna find nobody to treat you like I do
I've been down on my knees and you treat me like a fool
I know what you're trying to do, it ain't gonna happen
Cause I just done got hip to you
I'm gonna walk out laughing

Charlie Watts

Allot of these guys were way underated but very good. The list goes on and on, these are some of my favorite along with the greats already mentioned

Guys, I thought this would be a good time to ask...Mel Schacher of Grand Funk Railroad had a brief drum solo in their album "Caught in the Act." It was entitled "T.N.U.C." What does this stand for? Anyone? Thanks.

Please lets not forget the incomparable pocket of Jeff Porcaro. He was one of the most sought out studio drummers of the west coast scene thru out the 70s/80s/90s. I am really impressed with the diverse knowledge of the f chat people. Ive been a drummer for nearly 25 years.

Mr Green is correct - for showmanship and charisma, you can't ( or couldn't ) beat " Moon the Loon "

Best show I saw was Stanley Jordan up close. Obviously not a drummer, but he kicked ass as a performer.

What do you call the people who hang around musicians all the time?

Drummers!

It's a joke, folks!

By the way, I have to agree with Doody on jazz drummers generally topping rock drummers. Although Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones seemed to really set the beat for me on a lot of songs.

Yes...most definitely,Buddy Rich is an all time great drummer. No doubt about it. I have a younger brother(42) who ,as kids, played drums in school band, and a drum corp. We had a Hard Rock band as teens,(1970's) and he could copy "Bonzo" and Tommy Aldridge to a "T". All the best guitar players(not to get off subject) Like Eddie VanHalen,Stevie Vai,Joe Satriani,Slash,Adrian Vandenburg,The Schenker brothers...(the list goes on...),even though they play Hard Rock,or Metal...ALL have "classical" guitar training. And,there are some fantastic guitarists out there, too,in the Jazz field...Mark Antoine,Peter White,Earl Klugh,Lee Ritenour,Otmar Liebert, (once again, the list goes on...)So,theres alot of great influences that musicians pick up,and pass along through their own music.

Neal Peart of RUSH is the best drummer of all time. Seen him live, he has over a 100 percussion pieces and does a 10 min. solo.

Buddy Rich is and always will be in the top 5 drummers of all time. As the story goes a man just arrived at the pearly gates and hears drum playing, he asks St. Pete, is that Buddy Rich playing, St. Pete says, no that's God playing , he just thinks he's Buddy Rich

Dave 330, when Ginger played that solo same as when he was with Cream. With Cream it was Toad, with Blind Faith it was Do What You Like with a few lircs, they are both great

Well, weith a few exceptions, rock and roll drumming (or bass lines) is generally not all that technical or complex. At the height of my drumming ability I could reproduce any of the modern rock music we were listening to.

All of this and not a single mention of Buddy Rich?

"The spirit of Buddy lives on for me every time I sit down and play........ the thought of his awesome natural ability and genius is still awe inspiring to this day." -- Dave Weckl

"I can hardly do better than quote something Gene Krupa once said, that there are all these great drummers in the world -- and then there's Buddy Rich. During the making of our tribute record to his music, Burning For Buddy, I immersed myself pretty deeply in Buddy's life and work, and the more I learned, the more I came to admire the man and his music. Quite simply, Buddy Rich was a great man, who did great work." -- Neil Peart

and at the risk of being labelled a snob, the rock & roll guys, with a few exceptions, can't hold a candle to the jazz guys. the jazz guys were the geeks in high school who didn't do anything except play. the rock and roll guys are too busy enjoying the rock and roll lifestyle to get wildly good :-). i used to think geddy lee was a great bassist (i play bass) and neal peart was a great drummer - until i got my eyes opened by jazz artists.

go ahead. flame me. i can take it :-)

dave weckl is really quite impressive.

apparently, the story i heard about him was that he was good but wasn't kicking butt. he spent a bunch of time being "just good". so to break through, he set himself up in his basement or something and just lived with his kit for months on end practicing some ungodly number of hours per day. total psycho behavior, but i guess if you're not committed you're not committed :-)

doody.

I heard one of the longest drum solos ever from Ginger Baker on the Blind Faith tour in 1969 at the Oakland Coliseum. Tickets were $5.00. I would rate him as one of my favorites.

Frank,

I recently went through my brothers record collection. He had alot of Black Oak Arkansas albums. He told me that the group came from Black Oak Arkansas and that there family's owned most of the town. He also told me that David lee Roth copied the style of the BOA singer.

IMO...Tommy Aldridge is one of the BEST drummers ever. I first saw Tommy, when he got his start in the Great Country rock band,"Black Oak Arkansas" (Jim Dandy) in 1974. "Bad company" opened up for them. Tix were $5.50-$7.50 for concerts back then!...( just dated myself!) Black Oak was one of the top 5 grossing bands in the WORLD back then. Then, saw Tommy with "Pat Travers Band","OZZY",Whitesnake", "Ted Nugent". We just saw Whitesnake earlier this year,Tommy was drumming. Then, also saw Ted Nugent, this year,Tommy was drummin'. Check out the album,"Ranch and Roll-LIVE!" by Black Oak Arkansas(circa 1974) Tommy's got some great drumming, there, especially a killer solo on the song,"Up". Speaking of Tommy's ...Tommy Lee aint all that bad, either.

Bruce, that is amazing. I actually learned the fundamentals by watching his instructional videos when I was a teenager. I remember one particular video was great because it took you through setup, tuning, etc., all the stuff that a real novice wouldn't have a clue about.

I saw Basia 5 years ago. She had the 'tightest' jazz drummer I ever saw! My #2 choice is Victor Wooten from Bela Fleck. He plays the drumitar, pretty wicked!
