That price sounds resonable to me.... For example, total cost for BC/BS, 48 year old male, better than average coverage would be about $360/mo at my company with 50% paid by the company(Florida). This is for a small business but a different group than they put you in when you're an individual.

AFLAC is one that does catastrophic but you may have to have primary insurance first.

David...

EBCBS's quote of $450 a month is accurate and "reasonable" if you compare it to some other personal quotes out there; the only affordable way to have health insurance nowadays is through an employer... If you're in NY, please email me, [email protected] - being that commercial health insurance varies from state to state, i couldn't advise you if you were in another state, but if you're anywhere in NY, email me, i'll send you anything i can in the way of information, alternatives, etc. and so forth...

There are policies that are designed to only cover catastrophic illnesses and the premiums are much less than the full coverage plans. The insurance covers things like cancer, heart attack etc., usually with a high deductable. Here are some search results on the topic from google:

After the company I was working for went through the "downsizing" routine...and eventually went belly-up, I ventured into the world of independent consulting. Previously, my health insurance was paid 100% by my employer...

I've been in touch with BC/BS...and they're quoting me $450/month for reasonably decent coverage, although to me...it seems a bit pricey, since the coverage is just for me! (48-single male)

Any ideas on a lesser expensive route? I'm interested in coverage against major health issues...

David
