Ben, unfortunately, no, i don't (nor did i ever) have any contact with the people who helped out... One woman who lived in a house on that street ended up moving to L.I. - only twenty minutes from where i live, now...!

My attorney was a 'friend of the family'; that whole issue was more sordid than i'd care to get into... At the end, the judge awarded something close to 50k, but somehow found me partially at fault for the accident... Yeah, like i somehow had the power in my 100 lb. 13 year old body to levitate a 2,000 lb. Grand Prix and bring it over the opposite lane, causing it to literally run me over... @#$%ing system... He just didn't like my haircut...

Aww hell, it's all just numbers to me.

DES- that's... amazing... I'm blown away (not to mention thankful!) that you weren't killed!

What an event... Do you have any contact with those people who lifted the car off you? Amazing.

PS: Yeah, let's all chip in to have Art sue your slack-ass lawyer, 10 yrs is inexcuseable!

Best!
Ben.

Bob, i agree, definitely not ok... :-)
Ok, hire Art, but we have to sue the attorney that handled my case as he was less than adequate- it shouldn't have taken a decade to settle a case like that...

quote:

your mom and dad didn't die after hearing that their son was dragged under the car and was in a coma.

Actually, Warren, when i got home from the hospital 4 days later, i was grounded 'cause the day i got hit, i was out for longer than i was allowed to be... Not as bad as the time i had to go grocery shopping on crutches, but that's another story... :-)
& i was never in a coma, i was just unconscious for 11 hours... The 4 days i spend in the hospital were the most relaxng 4 days of my first year as a teenager... The kid in the next room (probably around my age) kept walking back and forth passed my room; finally i got up to see what he was up to... He was stealing sugar packets from the pantry which was right by my room... He was a diabetic... i had been drinking a big Carvel chocolate shake just earlier that day... Suddenly life wasn't so bad... Things could've always been worse...

Des,
I'm really sorry to hear about your accident, that is really a crazy story and I think that maybe its more of a miracle that your mom and dad didn't die after hearing that their son was dragged under the car and was in a coma. Do you think that maybe if the car that hit you was a F-that you would still like F- today?

Mr. Callahan,
1) if you paid 100 dollars to win a F- when you already own one then you are too greedy and you don't deserve a refund
2) 882,000. the end.

LOL, Warren, there IS permanent damage but none that a few years in a mental institution didn't teach me how to hide while i'm in public... :-)

i was on a bike and the dude was flying (60-70mph); he hit me from behind, i never saw it coming... Unfotunately (or maybe it was for the better), i didn't go flying but rather the bike and i were sucked under the car... He skidded and hit three other parked cars before his car finally came to a halt, dragging my unconscious 13 year old boney body with him, underneath his car, for about 60 feet... With all the noise the commotion made, people came outside to see what had transpired... Once the situation was realized, several adults gathered around the front of the car (he was driving a Grand Prix) and lifted it, while one person pulled me out from under it... i woke up 1 hours later... Doctors said i was lucky to be alive... i left the hospital 4 days later, some scratches on my face, a broken collar bone and some silly spine damage... i had a concussion (wasn't my first, wasn't my last) but i'm still okay... :-)

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...!

sh-- I forgot to mention how I got the biggest sum of money in the history of my life:

I posted a thread about holding an auction giving away a F-. Each ticket cost 100 bucks. In reality I had no F- to give. I made about a 100,000 off othter chat rooms but made only about 200 from F- Chat. Then I was humiliated and had to leave for a few months.

Adam, I want a job. And I want to see a million dollars in cash.

Warren, it was the sales proceeds from an Auction that I conducted in Pittsburgh, we had a line of people waiting to pay us for 3 days. We only accepted cash or cashiers checks so most people just raided their ATMs. The auction was on a Saturday, so by Monday morning I had a lot more cash than originaly anticipated.

This thread is disgusting and fascinating at the same time. Let's see, some questions,

Des, what happened in your accident? And Eric, who says there was no permanent damage to Des. just kidding

Adam, why may I ask, did you have 1,000,000 in cash??? AND, why did you deposit it all at once????? Mr. Wellington I'm sure, would not approve.

In Japan, everything was cash. I paid for my wedding in cash ($10k?) and left the reception with more in cash gifts we had received. And then I came to visit the states and a friend freaked out when I said as we walked across union square in SF on the way to brooks brothers that i didn't know if I had enough cash because I only had like $600 on me. (brooks brothers is not my style: i was asked to buy some for japanese business man friends). In Japan we routinely carried thousands around in our pockets for a weekend or whatever. (to be honest, my grandfather here in california always used cash only too: i guess it was just his distrust of banks.)

As a freshman at UCSB i was a few days late paying my quarterly room and board at my off-campus dorm. They kept putting late slips in my mailbox, several a day! for some reason this pissed me off and so i decided that I would pay the rent in $1 bills. It was a couple of thousand. I called ahead to the bank to make sure they'd have it and then paid the rent in a brown grocery sack full of singles. Just wanted to make them count it.

Doody,

It was not all 100s it was it all denominations, it filled up 3 legal file boxes and they took me in the conference room of the bank to count it, they brought a manager from another bank and it took about 4 hours to count.

I scanned some photos that I had taken at the time..
Upload
The 2 people sitting are the managers, the Pittsburgh cop worked for me
Upload
I am the one that is standing behind them and looks exhausted...
Upload
The FBI and the IRS came to visit my while the money was being counted as the bank notified them and they wanted to see what the deal was,

I bought a car for a client in Germany a couple of years ago and in order to be able to smoothly transfer funds for a title I opened an account at Deutsche Bank and had the money deposited in my name. I was a millionaire for a few days.

Maybe not the most money deal but the best deal ever:

I was sitting with friends in 1999 on the bar of the William Thornton (floating ship/restaurant) on Norman Island in the BVI. A bunch of College kids pull up in a Cat half drunk and eventually boarded the William Thornton. They had more drinks and started dancing half naked on the bar. This one chick comes over and dances very seductively in front of my face. Someone of her group hands me a Dollar bill to put it down her panties. I took the dollar folded it and put it between her thong, then pulled on it to expose her glory. Rubbed it front and back and front and back. Left her with the Dollar. She turns around and takes the bill and slowly shoves it down my pants leaving it will Willy.

Easiest Dollar I have ever made. It is framed and hanging on my wall.

I hope the IRS does not find out otherwise they want "pus*y tax"

Dino2400. About 15 years ago,or so,I knew a guy from Nigeria. He had a very long Nigerian name, but, here in America, we went by the name "Charlie Wayo".He was a big, black guy. He told us that he was a son of a Nigerian president.(?) He always had a hand carved ivory cigar holder-big cigars. Well dressed. Some big rings that would make Mr.T jealous. American educated. Big money clip, always full of Hundreds. I was working at a trucking company at the time. And,he shipped a Rolls Corniche-Gold paint, and all of the hardware on the car was Gold plated. A Rolls Silver shadow. Several Police cars. A custom van,and a containerload of "Billy clubs". All to Nigeria. He also gave me one of his cards that said,"Arms dealer".(lost it) Is this the same guy that you are talking about?

Most memorable moments...

11 years old won a drawing at local baseball card shop for a Hank Aaron Rookie card. Still have it today.

18 years old went to dog track in Kansas for first time and won a Superfecta that paid around $1,000.

LOL, Bruce!

Wow, DES...glad you weren't permanently disabled from your incident!

While it's not a huge amount to me now, at the age of 13, I won a national art contest. Anyone remember the "Cookie Jarvis" character on the "Cookie Crisp" cereal box back in the early 80's? At any rate, they held this contest "Draw Cookie Jarvis". All you had to do was send in 2 box tops, name, address, etc. -- and they sent you an official application and artwork sheet. So, I sent in my artistic interpretation of "Jarvis" in pen/ink/watercolor.

Got a call about 2 month later from Purina Foods informing that I'd won the grand prize -- all expense paid vacation for 4 to CA (Disneyworld, Univ. Stud., etc.). Since we had a family of 5, and had just visited those places 2 years earlier, I opted for the cash equivalent -- $5,000.

Gave my 2 sisters each $500 and put the rest in the bank. Bought my first car with that money and the interest earned.

You just gotta' love good old Cookie Crisp

When i was 13, some moron in a Grand Prix mowed me down while i was riding a bike...

...last year my lawyer finally settled it and i got a check in the mail for just over 22k.

i blew every last penny, a little here, a little there... i didn't even spend it frivolously, either, but i never realized i wasn't making enough money until after i lost my cushion... Ah, the windfalls of being young and stupid. :-)

I think it was when Sir Sambujang Jammeh, the personal Assistant to Mohammed Abacha (the eldest son of the late Nigerian Head of State, General Sani Abacha) craved my distinguised indulgence and indulgence in transfering some $152million from the deepest bowels of africa into the united states. I got to keep 35% and they kept 60% and 5% was of course for expenses incured by either party in the course of the transaction. I was of course skeptical at first but they reassured me that this transaction is 100% risk free as all modalities have been put in place for a smooth and successful conclusion. I was told that God touches my heart to see the urgency and importance of this pending mutually beneficial transaction and that he "would go to await my swift response." How could I turn that down?

I saw this question posed on corvetteforum.com and it drew some interesting responses, so...What is the greatest lump sum of money (windfall) you've received at one time, whether it be a stock market profit, contest winnings, legal settlement etc etc ?

Mine isn't the biggest I've had (in real estate investing all my income comes in the form of big cheques) but it was SO easy I thought it would be the best story. Without getting too technical, I gained control of a high end residential home, worth about 3M for 2.8 (it needed some landscaping, nothing major at all) through an option, and before I did ANYTHING towards making it look nicer or marketing it, a week after I got the option, a buyer came forward and offered 3.2M right off the bat.(which was more than the appraised value) I accepted, pocketing almost $400,000 for a total of maybe 5 hours work over the course of a week.
