Jim, I bought 15 the other day. Used 5 in my cars and house and since then put one in every car we sell. I will be looking soon again. These I am not too happy with as they do not have a gauge to see if it is weak or not. They were only a few bucks though and are chrome.

when in doubt where to place the fire extinguisher, you can always put it under the front hood or your storage area; depending on the car. I know it is a funny place to put it but at least you have it in the car. I had mind there for a few years. just recently changed the location to behind the drivers seat. Mine is Halon.

2.5 lb Halon in front. It was recommended to mount the extinguisher between 45 degrees and straight up to avoid severe corrosion of the valve to the body or lay it down when driving only and store vertically when parked for the day. Makes it impossible to service the extinguisher according to the rep and requires purchase of a new one if stored on it's side continuously. I have a 5 lb ABC with hose/nozzle mounted in the back as well. DJ |

Quick story... Leaving a movie theatre about 8 years ago, in a friends highly modifed 69 Camaro. As we were sitting in line to get out of the car park, this flame jumped from underneath the hood. As we all jumped out of the car, with NO FIRE EXTINGUSIHER, three seprate people showed up with F.E to help us put out what a busted fuel line going into the dual holley 4 barrels. To say the piss was scared out of us is an understatment, but, it always pays to have one on hand. Its not your car it may save, but, someone elses. Sorry for hi-jacking..... |

thanks for posting this Greg! Hope that wakes the other "I-don't-know-if-I-like-to-see-the-extinguisher-in-my-car" group that does not have theirs yet. |

get any and strap it to anywhere in the passenger compartment. Use tie straps if nesessary. As I said before you should have one in EVERY car. You may be able to help someone on the street that is trapped in his vehicle after an accident and you are first on the scene. All cars sold by Cavallino Motors are sold WITh an extinguisher. |

Mike, Go to FBH and get the "Handy Fire Extinguisher" You will have to re cut your passenger side mat...if they are aftermarket. DL |

Greg - good advice. Probably in this forum somewhere - but dont feel like digging. What is the best one to get? Are they all approx the same size and where are the different options to store them? FYI- going in a 550. |

I was jump starting my BMW, battery was completely dead so I kept cables on for about 30 minutes. Started cranking and saw a flame in the engine compartment. I had purchased an extinguisher years ago with a rennlist group buy and i had put that one in the 250 PF coupe after JRV had me scared about my 40 year old fuel lines. The PF was parked nearby so got it out and put the flame out. Looks like it was the plastic handle on the jumper cables was burning. Scary!! BMW has old gas I think and won't start. My advice to those that don't have one, get one. |
