After you drain out as much as you can, fill it up with some fresh,Premium gas,and a bottle of "Stabil" gasoline stabilizer additive, sold in most autoparts stores and hardware stores.

I don't know your particular car but on some cars you can pump it out with the fuel pump but if you do be ready to shut it off as soon as no fuel is flowing or you risk overheating and ruining the pump (at least on some cars). I would prefer the drain plug or syphoning method or even dropping the gas tank.

The problem is getting rid of the gas once you've got it out. You can use it in your lawnmower maybe or dump a little at a time in with good gas and maybe burn it. I've had an 8qt. oil drain container full of gas for a while trying to figure out how to get rid of it (must be somewhere you can take it but i haven't gotten motivated to call the city and go through their phone maze yet).

Greg,
On the 635, disconnect the fuel return line to the tank...usually at the end of the fuel rail (or at the pressure regulator)...Connect a hose to your drain container...and turn the key on. If memeory serves me correctly, that'll drain the tank.

thanks-its on the BMW 635. I am taking it out of storage and getting it roadworthy while I wait for the Jag XJR's transmission to get rebuilt, my Landcruiser is in the shop for a carb rebuild, the 911 Turbo has an intermittant issue that causes it to die on the highway, the 512TR needs the seatbelt recall done as the mouse trap belts just hosed up. When it rains it pours:-) good thing I have the old reliable 250 as it needs nothing. Oh, except for those darn 20 year old tires that I can't find 400 Millimeter X 175 cause no one makes them anymore. And I forgot about my '91 Suburban in CO that wanders around the road due to loose steering. I got pulled over driving home from the mountains cause the cop thought I was drinking. I said no officer, just a bad driver!

Might be one of his other handful of cars though. ;)

Greg,

If your 512 dual tank set-up is the same as my BB...which I believe it is, there is a drain on the alu crossover tube under the car...on the right side. The plug can be a bit troublesome to break free, so if you've got an air impact wrench, I'd use it....

Some gas tanks have drain plugs. Siphon otherwise, make your own. We use to drain our sump before we bought a pump. Forget how to do it, but once you get it going it just goes.

The car won't start and the gas has been in for a year. How do I get rid of it? I was thinking a syphon pump from a marine shop? Or can I put additives in it to get it going? Thanks.
