Hey guys,

That would be me on Rennlist, and now 6speedonline, talking about my 959. It is nearly ready... I'm happy to answer any/all questions within reason... Best to post to 6speedonline because there is also the man who helped develop SHOW/DISPLAY for gates on there.

Point taken, but sloppy English/bad grammar really bothers me. Perhaps it's an obsessive/compulsive disorder I have, but I can't believe the atrocious English on this board. Especially when people write "could care less" instead of "couldn't care less," thereby changing the meaning of their post to exactly the opposite of what they want to say. I will do my best not to carry on about it anymore, though.

About the article, yes, I am sure you did see something along those lines. But the link in the first post of this thread points you to a letter that refutes the information, or at least points to significant misrepresentations.

Amir - what's with the attitude? Are you looking to recapture the glory of a grammer award you won back in the day? Most of us here are concerned with substance over form. Perhaps Rob can appoint you as the "Spelling Czar" of Ferrari-chat. You will be busy.

I too thought I saw something along the lines that kds spoke of.

Amir...

I never read the link at all and maybe I should have obviously, but in any event, I was merely regurgitated something that I remember reading from a previous car magazine article.

Kds,
do you know how to read? Follow the link to the letter...

The letter states that Canepa cannot legally certify the cars since he is not a registered ICI (Independent Commercial Importer). So he's recertifying 25 cars how?

Show and Display rules do not reduce the emissions requirements in any way. Only the requirements to conform to DOT Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) are relaxed.

So I am guessing you meant to write..."full emissions legality under EPA regulations." Except you have to be an ICI to do so. Canepa isn't. And the regulations clearly state you cannot subcontract the work out even if you ARE an ICI. Again, Canepa ISN'T, and even if he was, he is NOT allowed to subcontract the work out.

The hp numbers are bogus.

Canepa Motorsports in California is re-certifying 25 of these cars right now....but with 600hp and full 50 state emissions legality under the show and display rules. Bring your own....or buy one of theirs.

FYI:
There's an informative posting series going on Rennlist right now (996 Turbo board) by a guy who is going through the acquisition, approval, etc. process. He's got the car and made quite a bit of process.

This is a very interesting article. I've been following the history of the 959 for a long time and I have numerous books and magazine articles on the subject. There seems to be a lot of variation in the stories told about U.S. legal 959s. It's a shame that there are dune buggies that are cruising on America's roads with seemingly no crash protection, and yet one of the most technologically advanced automobiles ever produced is still having a problem getting certified for public use here.
