Jerry, I have sold millions of dollars of this type of merchandise, through auction, liquidation and retail over the last 10 years. Is the .28c a firm price or is it negotiable. it seems pretty high for customer returns. Are you buying directly from the company or through a broker. How many stores? Where are they located? Will they move it back to their Distribution center or do you have to pick it up from the store level. How often do you have to pick it up? I have made a lot of money with some companies and lost a bunch with others. You will need to make sure that you actualy get what you pay for, most of the time they store employees with inventory it, write it off from their store level inventory, and steal whatever they can and hope you will not notice notice. I have picked up empty computers, empty boxes that look brand new with a brick for wieght inside and 100 other stories like this. Feel free to email me if you would like some more input. How long does it take you to list one item on eBay? |

Jerry..This sounds interesting. If they will sell at $.28 on the $, you may beat them down to $.20 based on future buys. They obviously want to dump this product. You may in fact have some great deals. Ebay may be an avenue along with a website for such merchandise. If you can test the electronic gear, you may guarantee the product. With a pipeline of this type of product, you may think about the Dollar Store model of selling product. I have often gone in to Target and Walmart's return desks to see carts full of returned merchadise. I would think that the stores may want to sell this inventory off Vs paying a stock clerk to put it away or do RTV's....I think you can make some money with a good business plan. |

Doesn't sound like it would make money. |

I have an opportunity to purchase "returned" merchandise from a big box store at about $.28 on the dollar (as compared to THEIR original selling price, not retail). The merchandise is very similar to what is in a Sam's Club, and I would be obligated to buy everything that is returned (minus food that has been tampered with, broken glass, etc). There would be TV's, clothing, barbeque grills, various electronics, blenders, tents, lawn chairs, dog food, human food (non-perishable of course)...you get the picture. Some of it would be absolutely like new, other items would be slightly used. I am thinking of starting a side business selling this stuff in a retail location in a lower income area. I talked to one guy who used to do this and he said he had a heck of a time selling the electronics (as people were skeptical of buying a "returned" electronic device), and clothing (he basically had to give it to charity). He was trying to get $.66 on the dollar and could not make a go of it. Does anyone have experience with this type of operation? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as this would require a 2 year contract and I would be obligated to take absolutely everything that is returned, which averages $3000/ store per week (my cost) and I can pretty much take on as many stores as I want to. I would also have to pick everything up myself, so I would need to buy a box truck. Thanks, Jerry. |
