I can't imagine trying to relax on that beach, seems as if it would be rather earsplitting. Did you read the stories?

quote:

Amusing your shot of the Air France plane landing in Juliana airport and what was even more amusing is that before they made it illegal, the locals used to take their dogs to that strip of beach and wait for the very large planes to take off from that end of the runaway and when the planes accelerated to take off the draft of air was so strong that they would throw their dogs in the air at the same sime and the force of the the jet air would catapult the dogs into the ocean! Great to watch but not so great for the dogs I suppose!

quote:

...I was sitting on the beach relaxing watching the planes land at the airport, when I saw a 747 coming in on final approach. I watched it come all the way in, I sitting thinking to myself wow these planes really come low on this airfield. So now he's about a 1/4 of a mile out and I'm saying to myself gee he's really low. He came in so low over the beach I could see the undercarriage so clearly that he took out the perimeter fence of the airport and dragged a large section of fence with him all the way down the runway....

One of my favorite sites is AviationPics.de which has a bunch of interesting and unusual pics. They have quite a few more pages than the ones linked to in the pics below.

Since air travel is so safe this makes the news. How the pilot hit a building, I'll never know. What a tremondous waste of time.

Just shows how safe air travel is when minor incidents like this make the news!!

Why couldn't their plane have clipped a building in flight. So close.......
