Must be the week for it. On the way home from work today, I came across a couple of wrecks in the road. From the positions, it looked as though the woman tried to make a left turn, and it turned into a head-on with an on-coming car.

Because the one car was smoking, I stood by with my extinguisher (don't leave home without it) until the professionals arrived, but fortunately it wasn't needed. One good thing about the proliferation of cell phones -- the call went in fast.

The man with the smoking car was fine -- shoulder harness and air bag. But from what I saw of the other windscreen, it looked as though the woman had bounced off the window a couple of times. A passing nurse stopped to give aid until the paramedics arrived.

Seat belts, people. Seat belts!

Hmmm, did she say that because you guys saw a GT4?

No new news on this incident. People have settled down and everything is back to normal. Now the long arduous, tedious, frustrating task of dealing with the insurance companies.

Peter,
What is a strange coincidence, Nancy and I were talking about you Sunday afternoon while walking about in North Vancouver...she swore she saw you drive by...and I argued that it was NOT you. :-)

Peter,
I'm glad you and your family are okay...wow, having been to your house, I'm surprised that the truck could get to that velocity in such a short distance! What a shock.

Ron,

Even though you are right about the double standard ...you're playing with fire with that one.

Peters - give it a rest. If you want to give god credit for lucky events then give him blame for the 30 something people killed by Isabel.

I am just as concerned for the well being of those involved, and happy for those who were not, as I am surprised that it took you three responses to crack back. I give you too much credit.

Thank me...uh you,

DL,
please don't hijack this thread. It's about a sad accident which could have been a lot worse. It's not about you or me. If you have a problem with me, I suggest we hash it out offline. OK?

Peter,
Glad everyone's OK.

AMIR, WHY DON'T YOU TRACK DOWN THAT GUY DOWN AND TELL HIM HOW TO DRIVE WHILE HAVING A HEART ATTACK! WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, MAKE SURE HE DIDN'T MIS- SPELL HIS NAME IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM!

IT'S YOUR M.O. AFTERALL.

Hi folks. I got in touch with one of the neighbors who spoke to the brother of the driver.

He survived and this morning, they declared he was not in "critical" condition anymore, but he's still unconscious and his face is all swollen. Another one of the neighbors who witnessed the whole incident said he was "unconscious" and slumped over and hanging out the driver's door window. So of course, as the truck hit the buildings, so did his face... But amazingly, he's still alive.

Yes, everyone in the smashed house (my neighbor - a dad and his two kids) are okay.

Robert Callahan, I had planned to have a steak for dinner, but after seeing that bloody face, I really couldn't stomach anything...

Glad you are ok.

This reminds me of something that happened to me while working at the car wash - I was getting ready to dry and a new gen civic that is about to come out revved up its engine then peeled out. It flew past my partner and me and swerved out onto the road in a constant left arc. It swung around back into another parking lot, went over a curb, hit a pole and flipped over. Was on its roof - really crazy. Everyone was ok, although I was nearly taken out by the car (as was my partner).

But again, hope everything turns out alright including the driver! Let us know if you hear anything.

Yes, Thomas, everyone is safe and sound. Well except for the driver of that truck... Who is a resident and just lives down that road! He's older (in his 50's) and lives alone. Sometimes his teenage son stays with him. I think the police got a hold of that son, or I thought I overheard it was a sister... I'm not sure.

Tyler - it ain't pretty. The fickle finger of fate said "No" - and I too, am glad no one else was hurt.
Peter - as well you know, it could have been much, much worse. Though there was nothing you or your neighbors could have done to prevent this, it must be strengthening in some way.
Your recount makes it clear that the children's safety is of primary concern, and not that of structural damage, which can and will be repaired.
Despite your neighbor's recent spate of bad luck (none of my business), I hope the fact that the children were indoors and not outdoors can be taken as a sign that no matter what, it can only get better from here...

It was 6pm, I was just ready to sit down for dinner, when I heard a vehicle reving its engine to the max and spinning its tires, it lasted around 30 sec. and I thought it was some crazy kid showing off, I stood at the living room window trying to see if it was happening in our townhouse complex, then..... WHAM!!! The floor shook and it bounced me up right off the floor. I ran downstairs and I saw this:...

Accident1.jpg

My front door is the one on the very left-hand side of the picture and that's my poor neighbor's garage door smashed in. His truck too was smashed at the front.

Apparently, the driver of the blue truck had some sort-of medical incident (the other neighbors said heart-attack, or stroke, or ceisure). I saw the driver and his face was torn-up and bloody. The other neighbors who assisted the emergency workers reported that he may not make it. This happened about 6 hours ago and I'm still in shock as I type this.

The scary thing is my neighbor's little kids were playing in that driveway only minutes before. Their parents called them in for dinner, one of the kids still had their shoes on...

My house only has superficial damage, but my poor neighbor's house is a sad mess. He's had the worst luck lately.

A pic of the tire-track just around the corner from my house:

I repeat: I'm okay, but a bit shook up. Its a miracle no one else was hurt (like I said, little kids always play in front on this lane and on our driveways).
