Chris, on Cozumel, there is also a really nice stable.......if you get tired of swimming, for I think 40.00 per person, you can take a horseback ride through the jungle and then run them up and down the beach........a little different, very fun. WEAR LONG PANTS! |

Thanks for the tips! We are still hammering out what week we will be there. Looking like the first week in December, but we are still getting it figured. Our hotel is an extra week of my in-law's timeshare that they couldn't use, so they are letting us trade it for a place in Cozumel. As soon as we get the dates figured, I'll send you guys a PM and maybe we can meet up for a few FerrariChat margaritas on the beach... |

Coba is quite remote. Went there 14/yrs ago it was a hike through the jungle, saw wild pigs running around - wife wanted to kill me. Club med had an outpost there to eat lunch. We also ran over an enormous spider diving into Coba, must have been 8 inches across. Go to Chitchen Itza, it is spectacular, I flew there on a small plane from Cancun, when I was at Club Med in "86. I don't like heights so getting back down the pyramid was frightful. There's a picture of me with a death-grip on the chain running down the center of the thing, somewhere in the house. |

Chichinitza are good ruins, but it is about a 3 hour drive each way. Coba ruins are pretty cool down south of Akumal and Playa del Carmen. Tulum is right there by Akumal and it is beautiful on the water, but not a ton of BIG ruins. Coba was my favorite. still covered by jungle and you can climb around on them. Big tall pyramids. You can ferry across from Cozumel for $15 or something like that. Takes 30 mins each way and docks at Playa del Carmen. Plenty to do there. I didn't dive at Cozumel, but we did snorkel at Chanka Naub which was decent. In Playa area you might try the water park Xel Ha. Pretty cool, but not open sea diving. Be sure to go all the way up the river to begin as that is the best. You might try diving in a Cenote or sink hole. Pretty cool looking. |

Chris, I will also be in Cozumel in December.....I go to Cancun/Conzumel frequently. There are two ruins.....Chi-tsu-Nitza (sp?) and Mazatlan....I recommend Chi.....the tour is an all day thing...6-7 hours and is usually about 80 bucks a person...includes transportation, lunch, tour. Very Cool. Tons of outfits offering wave runner rentals, wave runner tours, snorkling tours and scuba diving. Beaches are Beautiful. All the hotels offer tour sign up right in thier lobby. Don't worry about being ripped off. Any reputable hotel is very good about reservations, pick-ups, drop offs...etc. The only advantage to being on CANCUN instead of Conzumel is that Cancun has a lot more dance clubs, bars, party's...Conzumel is still fun, in fact if your with your wife, or kids, it will be much more enjoyable.........a cool "hang out" is Cozy Mels.....and many others....you won't be at a loss, and you WILL go back............have fun! |

My wife and I are planning a trip to Cozumel in late November/early December. Anybody got inside info on where to go, what to do? I would like to spend as much time as possible in the water, and would like to try to go deep sea fishing one day. From people that have been there, is Cozumel a smart choice, or should we be looking more on the main peninsula? I don't want to be stuck on the island all the time if we can't get back and forth, as we'd like to go see some ruins. We're still in the "learning about" phase... |
