According to a report from the Manhatten Institute in todays Wash. Times.
-$40Billion profit for trial lawyers last year on total settlements of $204 Billion from asbestos, mold, malpractice etc not counting tobacco settlements.
-lawsuits from 1975 to 2001 cost $2.8 Trillion
-Plantive lawyers get 19% of an average settlement, defense laywers net 14%, plantives get 46% and the rest 26% for admin costs (to the lawyers)
-300 lawyers from 86 tobacco settlement firms will get $30 Billion over 25 years
-600,000 asbestos lawsuits have been filed. 67 companies bankrupt and $54 Billion in settlements so far with a total of $275 Billion expected
