Ross,

I will find out from him what exactly the process is, etc.

Honestly speaking, you should be able to find them for not too much more - certainly less than that price + shipping + conversion, which will have to go through an ICI (instant gouging) in all likelihood.

the z8 was only ever made as a lhd.
the reason i am interested is that here (uk) they are going for very little on the used market due to the lhd and because it never really hit big here, so the prices are as low as 45k, $70-75k depending on the exchange rate over the last month.
now if you tell me that they are going for as low as $80k in the usa now, that is a different story - since when i checked 2 months ago dealers were still saying $100k+.
i am not worried about warranties or dealers; too much time passed so warranty would not be good for much longer anyway, and there is always a good local mechanic to be found. plus, not so much should go wrong with them.
dan, you are right about the alpina. i don't really want that one, i would prefer to shift and have the standard m5 engine. did your friend have to do anything to legalize his uk car when he brought it into the states?

You should know that the Alpina is an automatic, and also does not have the M5 engine.

Ross,
Are you looking to buy a Z8? I have a friend who's selling his black '03 Alpina Z8. Only 500 made for the worldwide market. Awesome car. PM me if you're interested.

There are differences in the euro spec cars technically, but that is more semantics than anything else. I have a friend who owns two (don't ask me why...), one that he brought with him from France (UK registration, he just bought it in FR), and one local car.

You will have no warranty, for sure. BMW NA will not offer you anything. Prices are so low for the used cars (they can be had in the 80s without breaking a sweat), that it probably isn't worth the time.

If you have more questions, or want to talk to my friend, PM me.

I think there is a US and Euro spec.

European Direct Autos in Dallas was selling a modified one months ago.

Yes, according to a friend who works at my local BMW dealer, but why would you want a RHD Z8 in the States, surely their cheaper in the US than the UK, hell almost any other country in Europe is cheaper than the UK
