I wonder how hot it has to be for an aerosol can to explode in a trunk.* When I was working in SoCal my car was often parked in the sun for days at a time in the desert 110+ degree weather. Plenty of stuff melted but never had any problem with fix-a-flat or fire extinguishers. Here is a higher res version of the one pic from the Naval Safety Center:
* Hmmmm.... This sounds like a reason for a little experiment. Good thing there isn't a window in my oven....just kidding, I would never blow up aerosol cans inside the house |

Holy crap! Thanks for the warning Doc! I think I have a fix a flat in the trunk of my Corvette. Car comes with runflats but I replaced them with grippier tires, so in the event of a flat I'd really need something like fix a flat. Guess I'll be getting rid of that can during the hot days. Cheers |

These pictures made the rounds of the safety committee at work this week. Ever wonder what an aerosol can will do in your trunk when the weather goes above 100F?
Something to think about the next time you put that can of Fix-a-Flat in the trunk. This one happened when a can was left in the passenger compartment.
Just a subtle reminder to read the sides of these things before you put them in your car. |
