I just flew back from Tokyo yesterday and nearly always see exotics while there. Sunday, I was just outside of my hotel and a 550 Barchetta drives by - first one I'd ever seen in person.

There's tons and tons of Ferraris and Lambos and other exotics in Tokyo. I was amazed at the cars and bikes that I saw each time I was there.

I`ve been to several parts of Japan now (Tokyo, Nagoya, Tsukuba, Nagasaki) and each has varying amounts of traffic and such. But one thing that is consistent is low speed limits. You could also throw in rural roads that will have you riding the brakes for long stretches. Seems like you`d never get out of 2nd gear for most of the driving.

BTW, one of my Japanese colleagues was telling me about his new car. It`s a Daihatsu convertible that`s nice and small. Displacement of 660cc and a speedometer that only goes to 140 kph. Probably takes a day of accelerating to get to that speed!

Did see a BMW 745i the other day here. Nice car. Also love checking out the Skylines and Evolutions. I`ll be in Tokyo this weekend and that will present a chance to spy a few Ferraris.

One of our members would race Skylines up a hill climb. Ask him I guess.

Can't afford a house there. Not great sailing/boating like US or Europe, either.

If you got $$ in Japan, what else is there?

That, and you can't drive a house :-)

When I visited Southern Japan, we drove out of Fukuoka into the countryside and sped around the mountains for several hours - it's not ALL city! I've never been to Tokyo, but can testify that there is still countryside (and places to speed) in Japan.

As I was on the bus from Narita airport in Tokyo on my way on the 50 km journey to the "small" town north of Tokyo, I asked myself why anyone in Japan would have an exotic or even a somewhat well performing car. The trip to over 2 hours (I can bicycle faster than the bus trip). Speed limits are around 50 kph. Highways are 2 lanes each way for the most part
