Fred, she wants a gold ladies YM w/ white face and the diamonds on numerals. She doesn't mind the size since she's wearing a midsize Tag now. Good thing I've got 8 mos to figure where the $$$ is coming from!

Jim,

I can get Rolex watches as well. The stainless models (as well as the platinum & stainless yachtmasters) are difficult to get wholesale because they are selling retail at a premium. However, the gold ones are available.

Which Yachtmaster do you want? Ladies/Mens? Which face/dial do you want? You mentioned it is for your wife. Are you shure she wants the YM? (Most women consider the YM to be bulky)

Post here or e-mail me @ [email protected]

Well this is a timely thread. My wife informed me this week while we were in Mexico that for her 40th birthday and 10th anniversary (8 days apart) she wants a gold Rolex with a diamond face. I'm not supposed to argue because I got a Ferrari for MY 40th birthday. Never mind that I'd saved money for 22 years to buy my car. So, who has a good deal on a Rolex Yachtmaster?

Bruce,

I just e-mailed you back. Here's the info:

List $5250-40%($2100)= $3150 plus $200 profit for my friend, plus $30 for him to get it shipped w/ insurace to him from his supplier = $3380 total price, assuming you pay shipping & insurance from Colorado to you.

Well if it's divorce you are concerned about. Then by all means buy the one with no resale value, that way there is no tangible asset to squable over - LOL. Besides, the resale value of most watches is low, unless they are vintage classics.

I do agree about the quartz thing, never buy an expensive quartz watch if you can avoid to.

Bruce- I hope to have a better price for you today. If you have your own UPS account, I think that would be fine. It would just need to be shipped with insurance.

I do have to agree with Ken. Some watches are considered functional jewelery (don't hold value) others are considered timepieces (do hold value). A Rolex, Patek, etc... have a re-sale value and are worth $ anywhere in the world.

Bruce:

A good friend of mine sells high end watches. The average cost for a dealer is 55% of retail. So a $10,000.00 watch costs the dealers $5,500.00 (note - Rolex charges dealers a higher amount which is probably 65%). So a retail price of $5,250.00 costs the dealer about $2,887.50. If you can finder a dealer that is closing the watch out, figure on 50%-60% off retail, but this is rare and usually only other dealers get these deals. The brand watch you are looking for has zero value in the used market, so you are basically buying a $3,000.00 Timex for Andera. Buy her whatever makes her happy, but for my $3K-$4K I would look for a good deal on a ladies quartz watch by Patek, Vacheron, Audemars, etc. These brands will have some value in the used market even though the watch would be a ladies quartz (probably the most difficult watch to sell). If you need more info drop me a line tomorrow since I am in class right now.

Bruce, my friend is checking availability & pricing on the watch you want.

However, to let you know retail/wholesale pricing in general.....most higher end watches are sold to the dealers from the manufacturer/distributor at approx. 40-55% off retail price. Therefore, approx. 35-40% off retail is about what you can expect to pay.
