Can't argue with a Cobra myself. I saw one lay a strip of melted rubber on the road for about a trillion feet. It didn't sound vile like a Z Vette or Maranello, but it was good enough for me. ;)

You know, I'm not sure what motor the GT is using. It is either the current Cobra motor, or perhaps a variant of the 5.4l Supercharged Lightning motor.

And trust me, I really, really, really like the Z06. I'm just a Cobra nut deep down. :-)

Point taken Nebula,

If it were up to me though, I'd get even an early Z-06 before buying a new Cobra. The Cobra is a cool car, supercharged and all. But the Z has this cornering ability that is off the charts. It sticks to the road like glue. And, if u get a four ten rear end it's capable of 4 second 0-60 sprints provided u know what you're doing and it's cool outside. So you not only get that, plus pure small block muscle with out the need of a blower, and, say what you will of the materials in the interior, but the ergonomics are spot on and everything just works. Okay, enough Vette praise...

The new Ford GT uses the same motor right? Did they just turn up the boost or what? HOT ROD has an article on the motor in the GT but I didn't get to read it too much.

--------
I would get an RS6 myself... saloon body. Do the US cars get the leather Recaros?

>>My wife bought a 750il new in 88. She drove it for 160K miles and loved it. When she wanted a new car she figured she'd buy a new 750. When she saw the new one she said: "I'm not driving something that ugly."<<

ROTFLMSAO!

Ah, yes, the ladies do know best.

Actually, my wife likes crossover SUVs better than just about anything else. Because they sit higher, she gets a better view of traffic. Plus, a lot of folks don't know this, but in Houston we get more rain than Seattle. (It just comes all at once.) 10" in 10 hours in not unusal. Thus, AWD, traction controls, and higher clearance is very handy.

We test drove a Cayenne TT, and, as excepted, the Porsche was smooth as silk. (But you know that there really is a tiger under that hood.) Plus, in the blue color, the exterior doesn't look so bad. (The dark color tends to hide some of the awkward bends of the car.) The interior is a killer.

My wife also drove a BMW X5 and loved it. However, I understand that BMW is supposed to come out with a much improved verison next year.

Then, of course, there is the Tour-Egg. VW has really done an great job on this car (when you get it optioned up). It doesn't has the power of the turbo, but it is $45K less.

So if we get the VW, maybe I can talk my wife into a Mini S. Of course, her logic is that I don't need another sports car (seeing as how I have the Maranello and the Porsche) and that any money saved should be used for other purposes, such as furniture, yuk!

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. Ain't it great to have so many choices?

Ain't it fun to find a car for the Honey ?

hmmm. What about if I actually get to drive
it sometimes by myself ? Ever wonder how you
hear about a grandma that owned a Superbird
426 Hemi with 10K miles ? LOL

My wife bought a 750il new in 88. She drove it for 160K miles and loved it. When she wanted a new car she figured she'd buy a new 750. When she saw the new one she said: "I'm not driving something that ugly." One day she saw a pic of the pepper in the New Yorker. She deceided that's what she wanted.
Both of you have to drive it to know but both of us really love it. The fit and finish, the quality of the controls, the ability to raise and lower the ride height and shock dampening the power. It's really quite something.
The Nav system is the best I've ever used.
(The fem. brit voice in the Maser is sexier.)
Her's is metallic blue with tan and dark tan interior with dark wood which is reall quite striking. She's also going to use it to tow as will I. For 5 + luggage it's the one.
The Maser is a great GT car. It too works well but IMHO the F1 as an automatic isn't the way to go. In auto mode it's quite baulky. So much so that I can't believe their going to use that box in the quatroporte but they are.
The P's service intervals as 20K oil change minor. 100K major service. Her's now has 7K miles with NO problems. (I changed the oil anyway).
The Maser has a good warantee and so far seems pretty trouble free. It's drivable in the snow and stays cool in bumper to bumper with the AC on. Keeping in mind they're quite different vehicles I reccomend both but you have to test drive both before you deceide.

Me Myself - I give the Z06 and the Viper credit where credit is due. Both are fantastic cars.

But they can't really be compared with the Cobra. It's like saying "Drive and Enzo and then tell me what you think of the Z06."

The fact is, the Cobra is $20k less than a Z06 and $50k less than a Viper. In addition, the Cobra is using a chassis that was developed in (egads!) 1977!!

Perhaps the 2005 Cobra (whatever it will be) or even the new Ford GT could be compared with the Z06 and Viper, butnot the current Cobra model.

Nebula,

Drive a Corvette Z-06 Z16 and a Viper SRT-10. They might change the way you look at the Cobra. ;)

Dale, upgrade the MerceDES to a 2003 Limited Edition E55 AMG - you won't regret it.

Dale - were you in a 6 cyl or an 8?

assuming it was a six cyl, you were driving nothing more than a glorified grocery-getter.

If it was an 8, well, the GTs strength is straight-line.

The Cobra, however, handles itself much better on the roads. It's no corner carver, but it can hold it's own AND it has GOBS AND GOBS AND GOBS OF POWER.

Trust me...just test drive a 2003 Cobra. Hammer the pedal, and you'll have a grin on your face that you won't be able to get rid of for a week.

We have a Cayenne TT. It is a huge difference to the S. This car is seriously good, but after 5K miles you get used to it, and raise your standards. For some time I was really taken with the TT, it's just sooooo powerful. It has more horsepower, accelerates faster, much more torque and any other performance spec higher than my Ferrari, but the top speed. I noticed that I drove my Ferrari less often, but it turned out to be temporary......... After a few months I remembered that there is no sustitute for a vintage Ferrari.

Oh, and one more thing. I'd buy her a Mini S in a heartbeat (yeah right, buy her one... If you haven't driven one of these, you should), but she says that it's too small. Plus, I don't think they make the S with an auto.

Dale, an RS6 uses the body of the A6 sedan...and stuffs it with a 4.2 litre 450 bhp twin-turbo V8, Quattro, tiptronic/automatic, 8 piston front brake calipers, and a stinking gorgeous interior. 0-60 in under 5 seconds (try that in your E55...although a new E55 will spank it) and great handling.

Nebula, my only experience with the new Mustangs as in a rental POS chasing a buddy of mine through the twisties of the Hudson Valley who was driving a Mini S. He wasn't even breaking a sweat, and that darn Mustang was all over the place. It would go from massive understeer to massive oversteer to massive understeer to who knows what. I actually started laughing quite a bit because it became a game to see which direction the car would head next. And then the brakes started fading. Hopefully, the hot rod verisons are better. Because the standard ones are big time POSs!

Mr. Glickenhaus also has/had a BMW 750iL as far as I remember.

BTW I suggest a Audi S8. As I admit the E38 750 is a little old now.

Jim, (I hope you don't mind the informal pronoun...) I'd like to get your advice on a non F-car. Here's the parameters. (1) I need a daily driver for my wife, (2) It has to be a tip or automatic, and (3) it has to be a fun car because I will occasionally drive it.

As I recall, you have been pretty happy with your turbo Cayenne. Also if memory serves me well (which it usually doesn't), you have a new Maser.

My question for you is how sporty is your Pepper car when compared to the Maser or even to a 911 Tip? Folks can whine and gripe all they want about SUVs, but in the real world a crossover SUV makes a great driving car. But it is fun?

I currently have a 2001 E55. And while it is a great car, it is just not much fun. (I know, I know, we sure get jaded in a hurry don't we?).

So what do you think? I'm sure that a turbo Cayenne fits the bill, but it is fun to drive? Is it more fun to drive than the Maser? Is the turbo worth the premium over the S? Also I have heard that VW is planning to put a V10 in its "Tour-Egg." Rock 'n Roll will never die!

Your, and everybody else's, thoughts will be appreciated.

Dale
