DES, Call the clerk and ask your question, and when she asks who you are, just answer "Matt Lemus". You should change your name to Yahoo von Hugencocken. That's what I always figured to change my name to... |

That's actually not a bad idea, however, i've not yet had a chance to call THIS court yet... i just don't want this to get kicked back again... i've let enough time go by on this, as it is... |

LOL, Bruce, i'll try that... Pat, i know it'll always be there somewhere, but not there for everyone to see... Bill, they don't really get name changes around here (or anywhere else for that matter) and i'm concerned that if i call the clerk and s/he's got an attitude or thinks something's suspicious, they'll just make a note of it and wait for my papers to come in so they can reject it... It sort of gives me the same feeling as getting pulled over and the cop wants to search my car and i say, "Hey, before i let you in here, can you tell me what exactly you can find and arrest me for...?" i need to call them anyway to find out which paper is acceptable to print notice in and so forth... i'll see if i can weasel an answer out of them without getting too direct... Thanks, everyone. |

Des, why not call the court's clerk and ask him or her if that is sufficient? The clerks often have more knowledge than the judges in this kind of thing... |

DES, The only experience I have with this is my brother changed his name back to our old Italian name of Pasquialini. But you saying your heritage name is Carbon McCoy I don't know if that would cut it. What about Carbon being your pen name for writing articles? Maybe that would be a good enough reason either. Sorry I can't help more. Good Luck with the change but remember your original name will always be with you as a alaise(sp) so you can never really get rid of it. |

As some of you already know, i'm legally changing my name; i've been putzing along with the paper work, now and recently ran into a speed bump (well, a few actually, but live and learn, i think i've taken care of the others...) Getting to the point, one of the questions on the nme-change petition is why i want to change my name; rather than attach a whole page full of reasons, i merely stated that i don't like my name. Simple as that, right...? Wrong. i spoke with someone in the supreme court (after they'd returned my papers to me) and they said if my answer seems flakey, then they can reject it. (The website i bought the applications from said this was a perfectly acceptable answer to the question - Lesson 1. don't buy legal stuff off of some website.) In any case, my friend's mother is a paralegal and i spoke with her last night; she helped me out with just about everything i couldn't manage or understand, but we're both stumped on what a good answer to that lingering, pestering question is... Then, last minute, she suggested i state that i'm pursuing an acting career and i need a more 'catchy stage name'. Not a bad idea, i thought, but i need to be absolutely sure that's gonna cut it before i send this stuff in... Any attorneys have any experience with this sort of stuff or know what an acceptable answer might be...? Any advice is appreciated, thanks... |
