Thought I'd verify my bad brake comment by looking it up in the chart in the back of car and driver (somehow i'm being sent a free subscription). 70-0 in 244 feet. As compared to like 160 something for the Maranello. Just remember to adjust to that! The H2 has the worst brakes, gas mileage only better than the enzo and lambo, can only manage .68g on the skid pad (worst of any car/truck by a long shot), and maxes out at 98mph(thank god). With its weight it causes thousands of times more damage to the road surface than the average passenger car. (i can provide the formula if you don't believe me). It's surely impossible to park and can't be seen around by other drivers. And people wonder why it reigns as the top car of the moment, ha!

"Figured out that only 14 year old kids liked it"

No wonder I see so many of them...That seems to explain most of the adult population around here

One of my sister's friends bought one. Kept it for about a month. Figured out that only 14 year old kids liked it.

They win in the ugly catagory. A Tahoe with big tires and lots of "talk" Just get a H1. I think the H2 is an ugly piece of vehicle. A nice used H1 will be the same price. If you want to be trndy get a x5. If you want to go offroad get thisUpload

If you buy an H2, please stay way behind those in front of you, stay off the phone, etc. The stopping distances required by that beast are insane. And the damage it will do to others on the road if you can't stop in time will be tragic.

Fred, thats probably why they have to put all of those guardrails, light guards, grill guards, bumperguards,"Brush Guards",all over those things. To protect all of that cheap plastic "cladding" that they put all over cars, and especially,SUV's these days. It makes them(SUV's) look even more ridiculous than they already are! Because, you KNOW that they never get driven "off road" other than a soccer field.(O.K.,O.K.,there are 3 or 4 people who MIGHT actually take them off road occassionally. But,for the other 50 million that don't ) Why the "Brush guards",and the funniest..."taillight guards". Are those there so that the lights don't get broken by shopping carts at the mall?...I mean,in the jungle?

Wow, a H2 with a supercharger?? What is the gas mileage on that beast? Just curious.

So what is the tax credit?
Is it that vehicles over 6000 lbs do not have depreciation limits?

So an over weight can be expensed completely over 5 years?
For example a 75K car at year five (less 3060+4900+2950+1775+1775 limits)would have $60K still to depreciate/ expense and the SUV would be fully expensed.
This faster expenses equates to a ($60K expense times 30% tax rate) $20K tax savings?

Is that what the plan is?

Did anyone see 60 minutes last night? Interesting report on tax breaks for vechicles over 6000 lbs. One way to get into one with Uncle Sam's help. Here's the link.

the thing that sets Fad's out is the ability of the car to perform. The PT is a fad that will go away soon, It is a Neon in wagon form. The problem with Retro styling like that is "Where do we go from here?" VW might have that with the Beetle but the MINI is just too much of a fun car that performs to be slighted. The H2 is not a retro but "Harkens to big Brother..." Judging from how many I see on the road I don't think it is a Fad as much as I think it is a interesting idea that people seem to want.
Still for the money I think Land Rover has proven itself as the Vehilce to benchmark.

I have to agree with some of the posts that imply that the H2 is just a fad. Im sure its a nice enough car, but I just can't get excited about a car that has that much media attention such as the PT Cruiser, Mini, ect. They just seem to have a "family fun" sence about them that I dislike. Hope I havent offended, just my opinion.

I have been out with the Texas Rovers -- Land Rover owners club and they "Use as Intended" all the time.

90% of those who purchase and SUV will never use it as anyting but a tall station wagon. but then a lot of people who can afford and can purchase Fcars don't use as intended either... Present company excepted

Omar, when you say 'off road' does that mean over a grassy golf course, on a unpaved road, or really slugging it into the mud,rocks,etc...????

I'm sure that the vehicle is capable of doing almost anything, but not many people do so. Just driving over loose brush will scratch the bumperette!!!

Fred
You are right for most but the H2 is designed and intended for off road use I have done it in places 99% would not.
the MFG are just dealing with a market that would not know where their diff lock was and couldn't find it with both hands.
the Lincoln is a dresser, like many essencially a tall Station wagon that will never see gravel let alone MUD. hense the NO off road recomendation. The H2 not a Dresser but very trucky in this respect and you really can't fault a Land Rover for being one of the best off road On road packages out there. I have driven the Disco with that "THIS CAN'T BE WORKING!" shock that comes from going almost to the limit of a great vehicle.
unfortunatly most buyers don't use them as they can but there are a lot of Fcar owners who park them and admire their purchase as it slowly rotts from the inside.
Sebastian, If off road look H2 Landy if on road Lincoln - Tahoe (shudder) or one of the best things I have had is the New VW Toureg
Also consider if interior vollume is the key look at the Volvo S70 wagon (really the S70R) One of the best cars on the market for the dollar

Oh, and by the way.....if, by chance, you do happen to meander off-road, say goodbye to your warranty.......they'll claim 'abuse'!

Amazingly, there's an abundance of $50k+ vehicles that are capable off-road machines that never even see an unpaved road.

How many H1, H2, Lexus LX470, Range Rover, Land Cruiser, Land Rover, 4WD Lincolns-Fords-etc... soccer mom mobiles are REALLY practical?????

What gets me is that they put flimsy, painted, plastic bumperettes on the front of vehicles that they claim are for 'off-roading'. One measily little scape and it's off to the body shop for a new bumperette and/or paint. They can't even survive a darn shopping cart at the grocery store, let alone an actual 'off-road' experience!

Have done a couple of articles on H1 and H2 and it really depends on what you want to buy one for.
If you have any intent on going deep in the woods the damn thing is pretty good but I found they seemed twitchy and topheavy on the road especially around 70 mph

They also SUCK for mileage.

If you are a "onroad" SUV type and need the space inside look at the Lincoln Navigator. Mileage was quite a bit better and it has the 2 wd 4 wd options that Escalade (AWD only) does not.

When I had the H2 for review it also had some pretty bad wind noise (shaped like a brick sounds like a brick) but overall it was a really good vehicle.

The "Do i go off road enough to need this?" is the question to ask.
If you do a better package might be the Land Rover Disco but it has its own problems on reliability

I personally think Hummers are a fad that will last about another year and you'll be able to buy a used one for half the original selling price. But then again, we own a MINI (speaking of fads) so let's see what happens to that in a year. :-)

Martin just bought one - I think build quality is not great but they are discounting these things like crazy now so you can get a great deal. I would not get one for the long term

Anyone have any feedback on the H2? I have been reluctant to make the purchase but local dealer has a nicely done model with supercharger and a/v system. Just wondering about long-term satisfaction with the product?
