Wayne, try here:

http://www.early911sregistry.org/

Post on the board, you will get some leads.

The early ('69 to '73) 911S cars have been really going up in price and are in high demand. Several nice cars have sold recently for around $40K.

Many people like the 2.2 cars better because the engines rev faster and the 901 is a better shifting transmission with the old racing type pattern.

I have a '69 911S. It originally had the 2.0 engine, which I still have on a stand. I have installed a short stroke 2.65 liter MFE engine. Its basically a slightly shorter stroke RS engine. With a light flywheel and the MFI, it revs like crazy. Probably gives 225hp or so.

These early lightweight 911s are a real hoot to drive! Good luck finding one, keep us posted how the search goes!

Wayne, there is a guy here in the 'burbs of NY who specializes in used P's, many consignments, etc. The cars seem to range in quality from virtually new to truly beat-up, but he may be worth a try: PAR Porsche in New Rochelle.
Another spot that gets 'em is autosport designs, whose main marque is Aston, also in greater NY area (Lon -Guy -Land). The guy at Heritage Classics in BHills seems to get vintage P cars occasionally, as well.

Wayne,

You may have already scoured these two sites, but just in case you missed them...

Best of luck!

Thanks, Stu, but I've checked out both of those sites as well. The ad #'s you have listed are different depending on how you do the search, but basically, these cars are heavily modified. The one car that I like is ad #2394 on Rennlist (the VERY nice yellow, unrestored one), but that car has already sold.

I've used up every resource I could think of, online and otherwise, and still haven't found the right car so I thought I would ask my fellow F-chatters for help. I'm looking for the following:

1972-73 Porsche 911S Coupe 2.4 (alternate choice: 1969-71 2.2)(no Targa).

Condition: Very good to excellent, preferably restored but not overly modified (no whale-tail, etc).

Color: Prefer black or silver, but I'm open to all colors (except white!).

Location: I'm looking for a California car but, once again, I'm flexible and can also consider cars in other sunbelt states.

I've tried Hemmings, Auto Trader, and even subscribed to the Porsche Market Letter. At this point, I'm hoping that someone here might be familiar with a particular car or know of an owner that's looking to sell.

Thanks for your help!

--Wayne
