Jeff,
I just saw your thread today, 10-20-2003. If you still need help choosing a bike, or would like me to help you with a great deal on one, check out my site: www.kensingtonmotorsports.com. Give me a call if you are still in the market. I can ship a bike to you, or refer you to a few fellow dealers in your area that I know.

Agreed, I learned how to ride a motorbike on a friend's Yamaha 250 enduro. I'm not a big guy so the 250 was plenty for me. Only thing I hated about it was the kick start. Caught mid-stroke once and I thought I broke my ankle... F---in' hurt!

Speaking of bikes, anyone ever had or tried a Honda Rebel 250? Looks like a fun bike to run back and forth to work (I live close-by, in fact, I could pedal-bike to there). And I especially like the price!

Get a Yamaha or Honda 250 or 350 The 350 is great with a lot of power. You can 'kick' the 250 around with more ease while keeping up with a two-stroke without much problem. The 650 dual sport is a heavy bike for the hills and dirt. I would stay clear of that one.

I think a 650 is too large if you plan to do some off-road riding. One of the 250 bikes is the answer for that. If you can get one approved for the street, go for it. I do know that if you will just take the title into the tax office and act as though everything is okay, most clerks will not even se the "for off-road use only" or will not know what it means. Just don't get the supervisor relieving someone for a break when it is your turn. Usually the "for off-road use only" statement is on the very top of the title and if you are handy with scissors, it can disappear easily. I know that Steve Jenkins on the Ferrarilist took his Italjet Dragster, which is an off-road use only scooter and got it registered by just walking in like he knew what he was doing and the clerk just rushed it through. Best time to do it is when there is a line waiting to register.

After I quit racing professionally, I got an enduro bike to ride for fun. It was easy to register as it had a headlight on it already.

Cheers,

Jeff;

You might want to look at a few of the 4 stroke Motocross bikes that are out there now like the CRF-450, YZF/WRF-450, YZF/WRF-250, KXF-250, CRF-250 While these bikes are competiton models some states will allow you to convert them to dual sport specs. If your local wil not allow you to do it you can get one in AZ or CA and convert it and title as a road bike then re-register it where you live.

Jeff,

Try looking at the Suzuki lineup. DR400z dualsport 4-stroke with electric start. Nice bike.

Anyone know what the good models are these days. I am looking to tool around with my nephew who has a CR125 and would prefer a 4 stroke (I know,I am 35 and can't take the beating of that CR after riding it all day today)!I also need it to be street legal so I can get to some of the trails without a trailer.I need at least a 250.

Thanks
