Yes, what a great tax haven a church can be. Trully the separation of church and state.

Here is TD Jakes property value from the tax rolls. And a pic. Don't you love the internet and public information?

Probably got this bible quote all wrong but...

"It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a neddle than for a rich man to pass throught the gates of heaven"

glad to see evangelist's using the money donated for a good cause!!!

Televangelism is a brilliant concept!!

Funny thing though, am I the only one that noticed that it really took off just about the same time that HEE HAW went off the air?????

Come to think about it, so did Nascar!

Think about it

If I was any more stupid, I'd have my own credit card company. But there is something shady about living a posh lifestyle off the backs of the flock, instilling a fear that if they don't pay their monthly membership, they will no longer be in the graces of heaven or god or whatever false promise they have made on behalf of "god". It doesn't set right with me. A true successful person will share the wealth, empowering those that helped build the success of the org, become wealthy themselves. Everybody wins.

God is what they are selling.

Playing upon the emotions of people to fleece the flock.

All one has to do is look and see what is truly reflective to whether or not they practice what they preach.

As everyone has said below, its the perfect racket.

Remember the Heavens Gate mass suicide in Rancho Santa Fe, California a 6 or so years ago?

http://www.primenews.com/suicide.html

Well, word has it that after they all died, got to the Hale Bopp comet, the space ship was actually there waiting for them but, lo and behold, after all that trouble....none of them had the balls to get on board!!!

I sold a Boxster S to a gay black preacher from Corona, Ca. His parish was made up of nothing but gay black dudes. He was there with some snot nosed 20 year old dude with a sore a$$hole.

He made $15,000/month. A week after he bought the Boxster from me, he bought a 911 Cab from some inland empire Porsche store.

What a racket.

Its not a sin to be rich.... or to drive a flashy car, be a Ferrari fan, wear glitzy diamonds or mink coats or have a "crew" that hangs around you all the time. God wants us to have nice things.

The problem is what do you serve? Is this guy truely serving God or is he focused on his posessions? Who knows? I certainly dont, and Im not in any position to judge him one way or another. I do hope he has not let money and stuff get between himself and God, but ultimately thats between them.

Looks like he earned his money from writting his book, so I doubt if he is a scammer. But, it is not a very good image to be a preacher in Oak Cliff driving a $500k car when the parisioners are mostly poor.

2 words for ya, Evan: Robert Tilton

Remember him?

Let me tell you: forming a "religious organization" (in the eyes of the IRS) can be one of the most lucrative, yet sacrilegious, rackets out there. These guys--Tilton, Jakes, Jim & Tammy Bakker, et al--are pure huckster charlatans who are smart enough to see the millions of gullible folks out there willing ot send them OODLES of $$$$ in exchange for telling them what they want to hear: that they're not going to Hell, and that the 7 deadly sins really aren't.

It is amazing how many people will send their hard-earned money to these OBVIOUSLY flashy hucksters with the rap star lifestyles--paid for with all those tax-free donations!

Years ago, when my wife was involved in not for profit theatre, we escorted a group of Russian dancers to Harlem, where we visited, among other places, Sylvia's, a well-known (and in my view, totally overrated) soulfood restaurant. I was hanging outside with a bunch of the Russians and their KGB handler when some dude, driving a 2 tone Silver Shadow, parked in front, and got out wearing the whole Superfly ensemble. The Russians looked quizzically at me, i said something like "pimp" and the KGB guy nodded sagely and said, "Yah,... vomen, drugs, weapons, yah...."

I have seen his wife tooling aroung town in her Bentley. More power to him if he can keep the success of his business separate from the preaching. It surely can't hurt that he has 25.000 people showing up to hear him speak each week.

I don't know if Jakes falls into this category, but there are a lot of"church-owned" private jets flying around. I had a cleint once whose church's "flight department" just spent $14 million on a plane. Must be nice to have that many generous folks in the flock.

Just because you're a preacher, it doesn't mean you are a good Christian. Some of the most evil people ever have represented themselves under the name of God. Likewise, my father left a very successful business career in his 30's to pursue a "calling" to be a minister. I would say it's very likely the same thing happens to me. Will I still not love Ferraris? Will I still not have multiple Ferraris? Hell no. :-)

I thought these guys had principals against showing off wealth on a ridiculous scale, guess not. I got to valet park his black Bentley Azure, complete with all the Gucci crap and Mink floor coverings. His wife was COVERED in bling ice. I can understand a rapper or football player doing that, but not a preacher from the poorest area of Dallas. He had his "crew" with him as well, but they came in the black bulletproof/bombproof Excursion. Yes, he made alot of money from writing and from his show, but I've never met another successful preacher who does this.

This is him:
