I like Benzes high line luxury cars but I haven't seen the Maybach in person although there is a dealer nearby. I personally don't like the looks of it and for $350k plus I can't even consider it, I'd prefer the CL65 coming out hopefully later next year and I'm going to get in line for one, it's my all time favorite luxury 2dr. coupe in the whole world.

On the autobahn between Munchen and the airport last month, a Maybach going what must have been flat-out (around 250kmh) flew by silently.
I was in the back seat of an Audi A6 pacing along at around 160 kmh.
The sight was sort of impressive but even the image of it doing what it suposedly does best did not push any buttons for me. If that had been an M5 for instance it would have put a smile on my face, but the Maybach......just another train.

I saw my very first Maybach three days ago. In downtown Moscow, of all places. Would have thought that I might have seen one in car crazy California first, but then the Maybach may not be our style. The car is pretty long in comparison to a regular sedan. However, in person, I wouldn't use the term ugly to describe it, but I can see how it doesn't appeal to most of the folks who frequent this site.

I am a driver, love to do so with my limited 20 minute drive to and from work. Orgasmic.

Who wants to drive a sedan on the track?

Built for driving? Built to be driven in? Opposing philosophies that will never yield the best of one or the other because of compromise.

I have a driver. My sedan matches the performance numbers of the two seaters/sport models in the model range. Special R versions of the models match each other in performance. The compromise was style and price.

Mercedes did not build the Maybach with that philosophy. It is not a Mercedes Driver's car.

I love to drive, raced Formula Super V. I bought the Expedition with the bigger engine and limited slip differential so I can haul big stuff but have some get up and go. I made a few personal modifications too. It has the towing package with a higher ratio rear end.

I drive the 575, the SL 600 and the Murcielago with fast acceleration and hot corners. I like to burn some rubber but I do not go over the speed limit. That is what tracks are for.

Driving is a hobby.

I also like to have a big sedan for the opera, guest dinner events, et cetera. When I drive my "big sedan" I like it to go as fast as a big ass car can go. I love my SEL 600 with its 19" wheels, low 1st gear starting, and other mods in several departments. Even though it weighs 5,100 lbs it still does the 1/4 mile in about 14 and a half seconds.

The Maybach is faster yet and that is the main reason to trade in my SEL. When I do get it I will get a little more speed out of it I am sure.

Personally I hate getting a new car. There has to be a good reason like it is a lot faster, not just because it is new. My SEL is 9 years old and as good as new. I hate the thought of giving it up as does my wife.

Again, as long as I want a big car for limo service then I want the fastest, sleekest, most reliable. The Maybach seems to fit that bill for me.

Amir, I guess it depends on what you consider a drivers car. Yes, I occasionally do go over 80 mph. I'd feel comfortable doing so in a 57.

I've never claimed let alone assumed to be a great driver or even that I was a driver, lol.

I buy street cars to use on the street. I don't expect them to behave like race cars. I love sports cars that are made for the street but then that's an entirely different kind of car than a sedan.

I do think the 57 is great drivers car. It drives great for a sedan, in my mind it accomplishes everything it was intended too and does it well. Would I track it? Hell no, who wants to drive sedan on the track?

It is NOT a driver's car. It drives well for a big car. Just like a Lexus. But it is not a driver's car just because it does not wallow and just because it stops and accelerates decently.

Are you a driver? I mean, do you go over 80mph? Your assumption that you are a driver is killing you.

Yes, I have driven one. At speed. And I have cornered in it too. It was a 57. I can go drive the bigger one anytime. I just don't want to. And I am not claiming to be a driver either. Just don't think that the Maybach is a driver's car.

Other than Michael and Ali have any of you actually driven a Maybach?? I can only assume tha that you have not from your comments. This car may share some things with an S-class, but similar they are not. While I don't particularly care for looks(agree with Ali that it does look better in person)they do grow on you in person. This car is not just for people who like to ride. It IS a drivers car and one hell of a drivers car at that. It's not a sports car, but it is without doubt the nicest most satisfying sedan I've ever driven. Drive one before you knock anything but the looks. Assumptions will kill you on this car.

We have a black/black 150 mile 57 in stock, and I will say I was impressed after I drove it. It is a very large car, but feels rather nimble in the corners considering its size.

I was asked by MB to test drive the car at the Sebring track here in Florida. It looked bad on paper but I fell in love with it after seeing it in person. It goes like a bat out of hell and handles very very well in hot corners. I decided I had to have one but will wait a year or two so they can work out the bugs of any new car as this.

I like it better than any roller or Bentley I have driven by a long shot.

If that's the case, why would you get a Maybach and not a luxury coach with built in shower, meeting facilities, sleeping quarters, etc.? Much more comfortable, discreet, versatile, and probably cheaper too, although I am not sure that would matter.

I personally like them, imagine commuting from a hard day of work in the silent back seat, reclined, with the seat warming your body and massaging your back while you watch seinfeld and smoke a cuban cigar (from the onboard humidor) which you accompany with a glass of single malt (from the onboard mini fridge) with sunset above you through the glass roof. Sure beats rowing the gears in a little noisy sports car -in that situation- of course I prefer driving a sports car, but on routine commutes and trips it would be awesome).

I think we could use about 50 gallons of silver paint on one and paint Goodyear down its side and use it as a blimp at the Superbowl.

Two tone big ass benz. Fugly. I don't know anyone that has one in Houston, maybe a rap or sports star. Maybe P. Diddy could be their new spokesman to boost sales.

I had never heard of this car but someone in my neighborhood is tooling around in a Mercedes Maybach. Apparently a $350,000 car! Anyone ever heard of this?
