The 8's are based on BMW blocks? Can you provide links or more info please?

Andrew...

You are 100% correct about the Vanquish. My customer saw one in Monaco last year in front of the casino and he told me that was when he made up his mind to buy it (must be nice...eh ?).

DES...

Seriously....it's also what the Jaguar 6 cylinder engines are....Ford derived engines. The 8's are based on BMW 4.0 litre blocks. I'll shoot some pics if he shows up as promised this week and post them here. The car is soooo low and wide and sexy...and...and....gawd I am drooling...

Warren...

I am in Calgary and my customer is also in Calgary. He bought the car by himself from the Aston dealer in Toronto. His brother in law is my detailer at our shop as well.

DES, I believe the paddle shift system in the DB9 is based on an automatic transmission. The Vanquish paddle shift is a true manual transmission.

Warren, LOL...!

Martin, i'm just conveying what i read in a magazine - i know i'm supposed to take these things with a grain of salt but i couldn't see reasoning behind it being a lie, so that's what made me curious... If what you're saying is, in fact, true, then this was a complete waste of a thread and i apologize... The whole thing just seemed strange to me...

Kds, black on black...? :::gasp!::: Do you have any pictures...? i'd love to see it...
2 Ford V6 engines stuck together...? Aston Martin is using Ford engines...? Seriously...?

Vince, i don't understand, what's the difference between the paddle shift system in the Vanquish and the system in the DB9...?

Andrew, do you really see that much of a difference in looks between the Vanquish & the Vantage...? i have both models at home (i know, i know, it's cheesy just thinking about comparing the cars that way) and i have to look at both for a minute to realize which one is which...

I think you dont buy the Vanquish because it has 460 hp and can do 186 mph ..you buy it because its achingly beautiful. So it doesnt really matter to those who can afford it that a cheaper Aston is faster ..IMO !

Ryan550...

Yes you will. The guy plans to drive it regularily, weather permitting. Having said that....the 1993 911 Cabriolet that I sold him way back when still only has 17km on it.

We will probably be detailing it this week sometime. It was at Charles English Motorcars for the OOP inspection the other day.

DES, I agree it's hard to figure out a $70k+ difference between the two cars.

So, I would expect an updated Vanquish soon, in about a year. Can you say 'Vanquish Vantage'?

One minor difference - I do not believe the paddle-shift system in the DB9 is a true manual gearbox as found in the Vanquish.

DES, who knows.....but one of my customers just took delivery of a Vanquish last week. Black on Black...I saw it yesterday. Oh my gawd !!!

In the flesh this car is incredible....absolutely drop dead gorgeous and sounds great......even if it is 2 Ford V-6's stuck together.

The DB 9 coming next summer will be priced starting at $161 K.The top of the line Vanquish is priced at $260K.
Don't think the DB9 will be quicker than the Vanquish.Reported 0-60 for the DB is 4.7 with manual and 4.9 for the "shift by wire" automatic.
Believe this about the same as the Vanquish
Top spd for the Db is 186 mph--193 mph for the Vanquish.

What is the DB9's MSRP? $150,000? the Vanquish. $225,000? Those might be real far from the actuals, I'm not sure. But going with those figures.....When A.M. prodcued the Vanquish, put it on the track, saw how it performed, took it to the car shows, saw consumer reaction to its unique and sexy styling, luxurious yet simple interior, they said, 'We'll price this car very reasonably at $150,000, which is a hell of a steal.' During final stages of production, one of the engineers wasn't happy with the dull exhaust note the car was emitting. He then desgined a new exhaust system, which would be put on all Vanquish cars. When they started it up, listening to the beautiful machine create a sound so unique and powerful, he decided no way in hell they were letting it go for $150K. That sound is easily worth $225K. And there you have it. The extra cost, and the reasoning behind it. I think its worth it :-)

So Aston is replacing the DB7 with the DB9 - a car that's apparently faster than the Vanquish and for a lot less money... Anyone know why...? i read it in The DuPont Registry's exotic car buyer's magazine and was wondering what the hell the deal is with getting a better car from the same company for less money... Am i missing something here...?
