Faisal, this would have been strictly be a fair weather car however the seller really scared me away from it. It's a shame the seller wasn't more forthcoming; I just don't trust him now. |

Also, I know a red Tasmin 280i that is for sale in Northern California. Let me know if the 2500M deal falls through and you are willing to consider the 280i. BTW, of all the 2500 variants, the 2500M is the one to get. |

Kenny, got your message yesterday, but was busy till just now. Sorry about the delayed response. It's awesome you are consiering a TVR. Truly a unique car, and the pics look pretty good. The car is not that far from you. Go see it. Check for rust around the suspension pieces. A little bit is to be expected, but a lot could mean trouble. Also, powerful, light rwd cars in NE winters are not a very good combination--practice sliding the rear end and catching it in an empty, wet parking lot till you can do it with your eyes closed. When it really happens, you will need the programmed-in reflex. For tech questions, this is the best resource: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tvrccmaillist/ Post your concerns here and you will get a lot of help. Pistonheads also has a forum on the 2500m. And David Gerald knows a lot about TVRs...send him an email and see if can give you some tips, although he might deal in Griffiths and newer. http://www.davidgeraldtvr.com/ The factory won't be too helpful...the CEO has often said he wants to get away from supporting the older cars. So try these other channels. Best of luck, and keep me posted! Faisal.

The ford 302 wont have any problems from sitting. Not many american cars will. I dont know about the rest of the car though. sure the rear main may leak some oil but thats not a problem. My friend's nova ran fine after sitting in his grandmothers garage for 15 years. Im not joking, it ran fine. It didnt even burn any oil on startup or leak oil and it had 176k miles on it. We didnt even replace belts or hoses when the old motor was still in it. We did break the timing chain though a few months later, but that was just from prolonged hgh rpms in a econo 350 with 176k miles on the original chain. It runs even better now with its new 400hp 377 stroker, but thats a different story. 2 years isnt that long. you wouldnt have to replace hoses or belts, but even if you did i think you can find the $40 for a new belt and goodyear hoses that last forever. |

Casey, but you're not using your F-car in college though- the Rolls's electronics (and most classic British cars) are famous for their gremlins. |

Oh yes, I know. Rolls Royce's are expensive to maintain. Ferraris are much worse though (from what people say)and ive had no probelms with mine so far. Also, there is a rolls airplane engine factory in Indianpolis (where I live) and they've said they can help with parts location. |

Casey, you're living the high life with a Rolls in college, good for you! I'm sure you know how expensive parts/service are for one, not to mention finding people to work on it. Right?

Your right. Im currently in the process of finding an early 70s rolls royce (Dont hate me anyone,I need a nice automatic car for college)and the first thing I ask the seller even before considering the miles or price is how much sitting its done. Ive looked at several of these older cars and if they sit for too long everything that contains liquid and everything rubber is trashed. However, I find that if a car was owned by a woman (your second point, I understand that its a joke BTW) its in better shape. They dont tend to push the engine and most statistics show that women are safer and better drivers |

Dr., not at all. I like the 302 conversion in this car, it makes it extremely fast, but I'd prefer to do it myself so I know everything was done correctly. It's hard to pass up such a beauty though. Arggh. The next TVR I look out will hopefully be something other then black though; black hides the lines of this car. |

After finding a car on ebay that caught my attention: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2437848147&category=6472 I contacted the seller for more information and pictures. It sounded like a sweet little deal, a 5.0 302 V8 in one of my favorite cars, a 2500M TVR (really light, 2300-2500lb fiberglass body) which appeared to be extremely clean. After making a case to my dad about how much I needed this car and how I have the money to both pay for the car and insure it, I finally got a "possibly, let's see what the price looks like in its final hours". My mom even considered parking her baby (the Mercedes) outside! Just received and email from the seller stating the car has been sitting for 2 years since his wife got a Corvette. As I posted in another thread here, there are two things extremely wrong with that: 1. Unless stored properly, the car has to have some kind of issues with the lines and various other parts of the engine where liquid can sit- causing expensive problems. 2. A woman was driving this car around! (kidding) Considering he left off that first important piece of information, could the bidder back out of the auction? Just be careful, email before you bid. |
