Sounds like the old military saying....."it's not a gun...it's a rifle"...or...."it's a weapon"....guns often referring to things of the howitzer caliber and rifles, naturally, small caliber weapons. Both can and do have rifled as well as smooth barrels actually....so that's why it is the same comparison.

He's confused. Motor and engine can be used interchangeably.

In electrical parlance, there is a distinction between motors and generators. Also, electrical devices are not referred to as having engines.

Well, he's definitely a bit miffed, haha!

Check your owners manual. Do they call it an engine or a motor? Probably an engine.

In California, Department of 'Motor' Vehicles?

Auto'mobile'?

motor n.
1. Something, such as a machine or an engine, that produces or imparts motion.
--> 2. A device that converts any form of energy into mechanical energy, especially an --> internal-combustion engine <-- or an arrangement of coils and magnets that converts electric current into mechanical power.
3. A motor vehicle, especially an automobile

motor adj.
1. Causing or producing motion: motor power.
2. Driven by or having a motor.
3. Of or for motors or motor vehicles: motor oil.

Its powered by an engine, but its still a motor vehicle. ;)

I'm talking to this electrician guy today about my John Deere "motor" He gets pissed off and tell me it's and ENGINE. He says only electric motors are MOTORS. There is NO such thing as a gas motor. I think about it and maybe he's right. Ever hear if this ??
