Peter - It's no big deal. Just keep in mind that, while Art and I get into it often, I'd still happily let him buy me lunch. |

Peter, I understand you.. you could have brought it up on a political thread, too instead of in this one. We all mean well or we wouldn't be reading or posting in this thread on Nibs' behalf. Its just not the right time point out a possible shortcoming of someone during/in a potential crisis. I've gotten into it with Art a few times, but at the end of the day, I still deeply respect him and regret missing a chance to meet not knowing he was standing a hundred yards from me. If I was in a state of emergency or worry, I wouldn't want it rubbed in my face what I did wrong and if someone else is a bigger person. Its just not proper! In my eyes anyway. I don't know how else to say it. Sunny |

SG..I stated 'carma should have flamed out your house, but it did not'....I personally would not wish that on ANYBODY, only making a statement that carma can bite one in the ass. Don't take my post out of context. I spent the last two days in San Diego and this afternoon watching the fire from a home on the top of the hill of Stevenson Ranch until we were told to leave. I felt for everyone there...So much for defending myself! |

Just to keep you all posted: All seems well. While the fire rages on, it is pretty far away from my neighbor hood, and unless the God of Fire decides to piss on us, we're ok. I really appreciate all the sentiment from you guys. This is a fantastic community of friends, and I'm glad to be a part of it. Thanks. |

Peter, when tragedy knocks on your door, I hope you remember what you wrote to Nibs when you receive similiar well wishes from us for good luck or a speedy recovery, whatever the case may be. Your post was disgusting and tactless. I'm moving to San Diego (Del Mar) permanently on Saturday and I will be working in Granite Ridge (near Qualcomm stadium). I'll bring you some popcorn while your glued to the TV and a pair of high powered binoculars so you can see lives get destroyed up close and personal while your livelihood is safe in Northern California. |

Hey, boys and girls, There's no need to pretend we're going to agree or disagree on every topic. You can beat the crap out of someone's viewpoint on one subject, and embrace them on the next, and *praise the deity of your choice, or don't*, and it won't be a character or personality flaw. Some folks see black and white, but can't see gray areas to save their lives. Others are quite the opposite. Not one of us is going to agree on everything. None of us should disagree on everything either. subliminal suggestion /Unless it's Telson, who just can't take a hint as to posting an original thought, instead of being a parrot./ subliminal suggestion When tragedy strikes - all hands on deck. Simple as that. When the dust ,shock, relief, whatever - ain't even settled - ain't the time to drag whoever across the coals on whatever subject arises, anytime, anyplace - and compare a comrade against one who just may share your blood type, but not your viewpoints. Unless it's a troll. subliminal suggestion Take Gary Green... Please. |

NClass.....Look at the nice post Art Chambers made on your post here. With all of the rotten things you have said to him on previous posts, carma should have flamed out your house, but it did not. While you are counting your blessings about the fact that your house is still standing, think about the class that Art displayed and its that level that you should have in future posts. I'm on business in San Diego, glued to the news. Its a shame what thousands of people are going through. Best of luck to you and your property. |

Glad you did not lose life, limb or property. My Pop was a CDF Fire Chief for 19 years, as was his father before him. My Grandfather's last days were spent 90% covered in varying degrees of burns. Pop saw it happen and drove him to the hospital. A certain church bell in a certain town rings at noon every day in his memory. Pop's own last day as Chief was marked by tragedy, as well - They'd gotten a call for CPR on a toddler who'd fallen into a pool - location was the furthest reaches of town. Being the man who'd trained half the county on how to do CPR, here he was trying to breathe life into the child of a Sheriff's Deputy and Nurse who was herself on duty at the very Hospital the child was transported to. Half an hour later, Pop walked out out of ER - the child didn't make it - and he'd officially been retired from his position for 15 minutes. I don't think he'll ever get over that. He continued to serve as Water District Super for the next 24 years, as he had for the preceding 19. Retired, then was unretired by request when the replacement, well, just didn't work out. Point is - Firemen became "hip" (a hipster is one step ahead) as of 9-11, but they've had to be one step ahead for as long as there's been Firemen. Sorry to hijack your thread - sometimes ya just gotta share the old news, too. |

Thanks Art. I spent most of the afternoon on Saturday flooding my back yard with the water hose, and I tried as hard as I could to saturate our deck and roof. What is amazing is that after my g/f and I evacuated, my neighbors saw a bunch of people going from house to house and dousing each home with water from the garden hoses. It really makes my heart swell when I think of the good intentions of total strangers. The fact that a group of people, that I have never met before in my life, risked being trapped by a fire to go and douse homes of strangers with water in hopes of saving them from fire makes me very proud to be a human being. Again Art, thanks for the sentiment. As for updates, the worst of the fire seems to have passed over my neck of the woods. It is by pure luck that my house is still standing. I just hope that more people don't lose their homes. I grew up in Claremont, Ca, and an area that I used to stomp around in lost 44 of its 47 houses. Really, very unfortunate. I just pray that this passes over as quickly as possible with a little loss of life and property as possible. Thanks for looking out, everyone. |

Nebula, glad you are OK. Very sad for SoCal. And horroble when you realize it was all caused by some no-load chickenshit arsonist.

Nibbles, you'll get through this. Evacuations are just a precaution. Since there are now burned areas surrounding your neighborhood, it's a good chance it will act as a fire break keeping new fires from entering the area. Keep your head and spirits up - we're with ya |

Thanks guys - this community really shows its true colors when bad things happen. I snuck back into my house this morning, and all seemed good. Looks like the fires jumped over my neighborhood and cleared us. We've got char to the left and char to the right, but we're ok. It's a damn shame - a lot of good people lost their homes. My landlord saved his house but lost his 6 car garage. Not bad considering. I saw a guy on the news hosing down his burned-to-the-ground garage, which had contained 8 classic cars (news didn't say which.) My heart and prayers go out to those people. All I have to lose is a bunch of old clothes and crap I never use. I thought all was OK until they evacuated us AGAIN this afternoon. I'm at my dad's, which is a little closer to UCLA. My g/f is with friends. We're ok, and I appreciate the sentiments. Thanks again guys - its nice to have good thoughts from friends when your life isn't going exactly as planned. |

Mark - the strike is still going on, but it was a blessing in disguise. I was forced to commute by car, which I found was MUCH better in terms of enjoyment (LA Buses suck), time, and money. Of course, I would stil be quite happy driving DL's 550 to school. I figure keeping the bird happy would be payment enough. There are quite a few problems, but such is life. For all I know, my house is in flames right now. But, as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing in there except things that can be replaced. What is important is the fact that my girlfriend and I are safe, as is our cat. Life goes on....it just gets a little harder sometimes. |

You sure seem to have problems. Is the public transport strike still going on? Maybe you should just move in with DL and drive his 550 to school. You could hang out with the bird so it wouldn't be bored and pick at it's feathers. Good Luck

Right now, there is a line of fire that is less than a mile from my home. We were told to evacuate at around 6:00pm this evening. Damn, I hope my house is there tomorrow. |
