Vincent- I blame my friend Matt for what looks to become another expensive hobby. I don't actually own any guns myself yet, but always found the technology intresting. (one of the reasons I like the Five-Seven.) Matt's recently gotten me back into shooting and I'm looking at a Remington 7400 (because an AR-15 isn't CA legal) and the Five-seven to start out. Also figure in the spirit of Robert A Heinlein it's one of those life skills that one should master. Best! Ben. |

Hi Michael- found that out, hence my withdrawing the request! It seems right now the only way to fully legally bring a five-seven into CA is to buy one while living in another state, and then move :P The Straw rules are a bit veauge, and are usually applied to someone buying a gun for another person and then transfering the weapon *illegally*, or at least to a fealon who cannot own any guns. Technically what I proposed does not violate any laws, the first purchase of the firearm would have been completely legal, then me perhaps (or not) purchasing it from the owner at a later time would also have been perfectly legal. I've been unable to discern if this is an actual 'straw' sale, even though in my case it would be two rights making a wrong? In any event, most FFLs have wanted nothing to do with it. Can't really blame them. Weird times we live in! PS: do you know if FN is going to be drop-testing the Five-Seven? Or of any for sale by private party in CA? (that is still legal I belive.) |

BEN a word of caution. yes you can buy the gun from someone else as a used gun but be aware that the ATF classifies that as a "straw" sale where as someone else is getting the firearm new just to sell it to you. this is illegal in any state and can bite you and the seller in the butt. i am a FFL holder( class 3 title 2 collector of curio & relic) that means old stuff prior to 1950. i was raised in california and hate to see the way the laws are there. i understand what you want to do and i am sure its not a " big " illegal thing but be careful, besides this is a public forum and " THE MAN" is always watching. good luck |

D'oh, dosen't look like this route will work either. Back to pestering FN to get the thing drop-tested. Or moving to Nevada for a year, buying one, then bringing it back with me. (anyone know about that process?) Best! Ben. |

Reading my post again, I phrased that very poorly! What I am looking for is a private firearms enthusiest I may be able to purchase an FN Five-Seven handgun from. (recently introduced 10-round mags and civilian-approved ammo make it US legal.) Becasue of an obscure CA reg, I can buy a used one from a private party, but not through an FFL ('approved new sale handgun list'.) So if anyone has, or is planning to acquire one, I am intrested! Thanks guys. Best! Ben. |
