I buy plenty of stuff on ebay and most of it is good, but there are plenty of people out there who have figured out how to work the system to their advantage. I sold a car to someone-actually to a friend of his through an account with almost no feedback-and after PPI, inspection and then a cross country trucking on an open trailer the guy demands 3 or 4 grand back because its not as nice as he thought. Bull of course as he sold it 2 months later for 4 K more than he payed me, but no bad feedback for him since it was his "friend" who put in the final bid. Insulting and irritating. |

Michael, you are right about eBay. We sell many of our cars from eBay but in reality it is just a tool to put our product in front of people that want it. The funny thing about eBay is that in order to have 100% positive feedback (which we do, eBay name / car-store) we must be diligent in describing the car exactly as it is. A good dealer who is serious about eBay leads will do anything within reason to satisfy an eBay client. Find a seller with a lot of CAR sales and 100% feedback and you stand little chance of being "taken for a ride". We have sold over 60 cars on eBay. Most after the auction has closed without a successful bid. As a dealer I can tell you I am amazed that people will buy a car sight unseen but as long as there are people with that kind of faith, there will always be people out there who value that faith and would never jepordize it. Sad to say there are also people out there ready to take advantage of those same faithful. What to do? Bottom line! Pick up the phone, call the seller, check his/her refrences and run it up the flagpole with your fellow FerrariChat members. Tom www.carstoreofglenside.com |

Ebay encourages impulse buying, plain and simple. Most auctions last a few days - with BUY IT NOW features encouraging people to lock-in buying something sight unseen. Try getting together financing, PPI, vehicle transportation, service receipts, questions, etc. in the span of 3-5 days an auction lasts. Unless you don't have a day job, this is extremely difficult to do in order to feel comfortable with an email purchase. I've seen some posters recommend a plane ticket to personally view the car and deal directly with the seller prior to bidding - you can't realistically do this on a whim, or if you're considering more than one car at a time. Ebay is great for posting something you intend to sell, but from my experiences, the sale actually occurs after the auction ends and there's time to have a PPI scheduled, flight in to meet the seller and discuss condition/price, etc. |

"the bottom line is buyer beware" Yup, always start with that premise when bying anything. Remember, for every "good dea;l" you find you are also finding a buyer willing to sell it at the price. Sometimes to unload it and sometimes with other motives. Be careful, but don't deny Ebay. There are some cool things on there that you may be difficult to find elsewhere. |

the bottom line is buyer beware...they don't always sell crap...but they certainly don't tell you how it really is...that goes for cars, parts, books, etc... but that is the nature of the beast. |

Ebay is a tool for everyone with computer access. You will find great people and people. "Ebay" is not bad. S"ome" sellers are. I have heard people say NEVER buy a car on Ebay and I don't know why. If you check it out like any other car before purchase, what's the difference? I have had nearly 400 Ebay transactions and only 2 didn't go very well, and it wasn't THAT bad. |

Ebay is no different than anything else - There are good people using it and bad people. Personally, I love it! |

I was being sarcastic to those that think everything on ebay is crap. That no good dealer would ever put a car on ebay, or those that think no good cars are ever offered on ebay. Same as those that think only an authorized Ferrari dealer can perform a good service.

Martin: Actually, I suspect that most of us understand that anyone with a computer and internet access can place an ad on ebay. What about dealers (on the BMW forum they call them stealers) who look you right in the face, when standing next to the car, and lie to you? I've purchased on ebay a number of times and have yet to be ripped off. However, I have never purchased or attempted to purchase a car on ebay, although I have looked at and priced a number of them. There are thieves everywhere so we have to be careful. That's why so many of us value good, honest, dealers as well as ferrarichat. |
