Omar, if you don't mind a little drive try The Inn at Little Washington. I've always had good experiences there.

If you're into exotic beer then Brickskellers near the corner of P Street and Wisconsin Ave. (or is it Connecticut...I forget) is a fun place and they have nearly 1,000 different beers from around the world and the food is good too (at least it was last time I was there). But Marq hit it right on the head about Bethesda. I'll be moving back to Chevy Chase this winter for school (free rent yay!:-))so I'll be just a few min away and you really can't go wrong with most of the places around there. Cactus Cantina near Georgetown (right on Connecticut Ave) is great Tex-Mex food and great atmosphere. There are great brewpub type places around there too like Rock Bottom and Capital City (no longer in Bethesda, but there are a bunch around the DC area). Oh, and can't forget Houstons Steakhouse or Tasteeeeeee Diner :-) I don't know most of the addresses of these places though as it's just simple enough to find a parking spot (if you're lucky...that applies almost anywhere in DC) and just walk around and pick something that strikes your fancy...well, at least that's what I usually do. :-)

Omar-
Jeez, didn't think you were gonna put me to work so early...here are a few I can rattle off without looking. The majority of these have been around for 20 years or more and have consistently good fare. The pricing can vary widely, as I'm sure you're aware, but I've figured dinner for two with a decent bottle of wine and have not included tip.
Again, your tastes may vary. If there is a particular kind of place you're looking for, eMail me and I'll gladly respond to the best of my ability....(listed in no particualr order) Enjoy!

'1789' 1226 36th St., NW DC/Georgetown
Excellent American fare; rack of lamb is their signature dish. Also try their champagne oyster stew. One of the best places in town for a romantic dinner. Request table #2, if possible, in the John Carroll(sp?) room w/the fireplace in winter. $250

'La Chaumiere' 2813 M St.,NW DC/Georgetown
Country French cuisine; a bit chatty/noisy as tables are close together but it doesn't detract.
Good food, not too heavy on the sauces. Dark interior, wood beams, chateau-like but not romantic. $150

'Ruths Chris' Steakhouse
They're all over town. Decent steak, great side orders, fair pricing. Interior decor varies from location to location. The Bethesda location has dark paneling, heavy furniture, ala men's club atmosphere. $125

'The Palm' 1225 19th St., NW DC
Huge lobsters, excellent steaks. $175

'Alfios' Willard Avenue Bethesda, MD
Excellent home-style Italian food. Best white pizza around. Wonderful staff. Everything on the menu is wonderful. Plenty of cozy corner tables available. This is one of our favorite neighborhood spots. Reservations rarely required. They may looked mobbed but they'll get you a table. $50

'Citronelle' 3000M St.,NW DC
Over-hyped but always listed as one of the top restaurants in the entire US. Food is excellent as is presentation (if that matters to you). Very noisy; you and your dinner partner will not be able to hear each other at times; not romantic (obviously). French/nouvelle French. Again, excellent food but I can't get past the noise and light level inside. They have a 'mood wall' that changes colors...what in the hell is that?! But, if you want one of the best meals you can get anywhere, I'd tell you to try it once. $225

'Bethesda Diner' downtown Bethesda,MD
A real dining car conversion. Open 24hrs. Excellent home-style cooking, blue plate specials. If you're looking for a place to eat at 3am, this is it. Basic good food. $20 (no wine)

'Broadway Diner' 895 Rockville Pike Rockville,MD
This is one of those 'new' diners with the shiny stainless exteriors. Varied menu, as you would expect. They have the very best French onion soup you'll ever have anywhere. $30

'Jean Michel' 10223 Old Georgetown Rd.Bethesda, MD
Nice, cozy French restaurant. Don't let the fact that it is in a strip mall concern you. Excellent dessert souffles that you must order when placing your dinner order. Don't pass them up; wonderful. $125

'Tragara's' 4935 Cordell Ave., Bethesda, MD
Very upscale Northern Italian cuisine. Very elegant interior, dressy, romantic. Nice place for that special occasion. Request table #7 if possible. This one is on our 'top 3' list. $200

There ya go, Omar. I tried to give ya a small sampling of what's in town. Again, lemme know if there is something in particular you're looking for.

Marq

Pick up a Washingtonian mag. Always full of the hot spot dining places in DC as well as the annual top eats in the area dining guide.

Thanks Robin!

As for Mark, can you list your top 20, with location and speciality in food? (also an approx. dinner cost would be nice) :-) Seriously, your help is appreciated beyond words!

Lemme know what type of restaurant you're looking for...lived here all my life (4th generation Washingtonian) and know most of the decent places to eat in DC/MD, not too familiar w/VA.
As a bit of trivia, Bethesda,MD has more restaurants in a 4-square block area (downtown Bethesda,MD) than in the entire city of Denver, CO.
It all depends on what yer lookin' for...you can spend $15/person or $250/person. Lemme know & I'll see if I can't recommend somethin' for ya.

However, no money-back guarantees....my taste may not be your taste, eh?

Depends on what you're into... Adams Morgan has a good variety of places. There's a great Ethopian place there called Meskeram that you might wanna try out. If you're into steak there's always porterhouses at Bobby Vans or butter drenched prime rib at Ruths Chris (conveniently located next door to a meatmarket of a different sort :-) )... Georgetown is chock full of trendy places to go if you don't mind waiting for 3 hours. There's a place on Massachussets Ave called Two Quails..not sure if that's what you're talking about, but it's supposed to be one of the best in town. DC's a great city though, with plenty of cultural diversity when it comes to stuffing yourself.
