The E39 rocked, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it!

(ok, maybe losing 500lbs and a litre of displacement with another 100hp to whomp Mercedes again, but those are trivial.)

Why they changed it is beyond me.

Best!
Ben.

I am just not taken with the coupe looks at all, and I thin kthe drop-top might worsten it.

I agree, the E39 has been their best modern car. Wish I had never sold my M5...

Thomas, shot with a Canon S230! How could I buy anything else? :D) (love the little camera too)

I kinda liked it actually. A HELL of a lot better looking than the 6 coupe that's for sure. It's bigger than it looks in the picture, and kinda a cool big-ish 'american ragtop' (but form Germany.

LED tail lamps looked wicked and rather distinctive in the pre-dawn sky.

I didn't get much of a look at it truth be told, but I liked what I saw the most of anything that's come out of BMW since the E39 8 years ago! (which still ain't saying much, all BMWs since the E39 have been crap for looks.)

Funny you ask at what point I found it was something different. I had some kind of 6th sense go off almost immediately. When it drove by me, I was facing 180* the other way, and inside my car. In the time it took for me to turn around, get out, power on the camera and take this, the car moved maybe 50 feet.

Exactly right, on for public viewing, if it's on a public road it's FAIR GAME.

That said, if they were really gracious, allowed me to take a bunch of pics from all angles, chated about the car and the like, but requested that I only post the far away shot, I would have done just that.

Best!
Ben.

Here is the rule boys

If you are in a public area and take a picture of something and they want you to delete it Tell them to go get bent.

if they insist CALL THE POLICE

If they persist get names for the lawsuit.

Now the Car looks interesting,

I saw a disguised Jeep Liberty doing testing in Colorado during the winter a few years ago. I took some pictures and the guys told me to delete them. I told them sorry, public place. They weren't happy with me, but what were they going to do, take my camera?

You put the Canon in Cannon. Or is it Cannon in Canon...
At what point did you realize this was something John Q. Public hadn't seen before?
Did you find it do be better looking than a coupe, even given the dimly lit conditions?

In the pre dawn hours, waiting for Norm's 360 to grace my presence, I saw out of the corner of my eye something... different...

Turned and the new 6 convertible was pulling into Vista Point. I managed to snap this one crappy ass photo before the legion of Duitchmen <sp> threw a car cover over it.

I walked over, they said 'no pictures' and wanted me to 'delete the last picture' on my camera. Since they were rather rude about the whole thing, I lied and said there wasn't one. Public roads are fair game!
