Hey Mark - what are you doing here? :-)

Thad - I'm about 6'2" and I fit OK in the Elise. It's a bit tight, especially with the roof on, but I would imagine most people here would leave the roof in the garage. The car, even in it's original, low-horsepower guise is a true blast to drive.

Dave:

Arnie Johnson, Presidnet of Lotus Cars USA (LCU) has in no uncertain terms warned the Lotus dealer network to avoid "Market Price Adjustments". Remember the Acura NSX?!

Fanatic,
Since word came out about the Toyota drive train, our dealer has been getting orders fast and it's only been a month. I figure the Toyota bits will make the car a relatively trouble free and durable exotic and keep the price reasonable as well. My contract specifies I will pay MSRP. I don't know if Lotus dealers are prevented by the factory from adding "market adjustments" or not. If the 1st years production is sold out in a month, they are likely to sell over list in the aftermarket.

Mark,
Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that.

I'm thinking about getting one also. Our dealership has an allocation of 40 cars this summer.....many I'm sure are pre-sold, but he said some won't be.......cool car, Toyota engine and drivetrain......should take some worry out of the maintenance.

Dave, I think you are making a great decision with the new Elise. I drove the european 156 hp 111s version this past summer, and it was a blast.
I put down my deposit nearly a year ago, and hope to get the car by mid to late summer. I think that for about $40K it will spank just about any other car performance wise, outside of a Z06. Compared to a Z06, I think that the Elise is much more fun to drive and better to look at.
Cheers!

I was supposed to go on a test drive of the euro version which was in town for the car show. Made an appointment for after hours and when I show up the dealership is closed and no sign of the salesman who set up the appointment. Not a great start for this dealership. Cool car though.

I am told they will have a demonstrator in April and deliveries begin in May. However, they had already sold out 8 months worth of anticipated allocation when I signed up, hence the 1/05 estimated delivery. If people cancel I will get one sooner. Good to hear from you guys in Europe about the interior room. My 328 GTB is a very tight fit with a helmet.
My biggest disappointment when the 360 debuted is that they had all that weight saving technology in it and then made the car big enough to put golf clubs in. I think they should have kept it small and 300-400 lbs lighter instead. Obviously Montezomolo knew better than me since the car is their biggest hit ever.

I'm 6' and fit into an Elise with a helmet on... If I put the seat all the way back, I cannot push the cluth in all the way.

Thad, TimG is well over 6' and I'm sure he's driven an Elise since he owns a Lotus dealership.

I have an Elise from 1972; it's called a Europa Twin Cam. Both cars are very light, not a lot of HP but very quick if not fast, and corner to the point that passengers frequently scream. I bet you'll have a blast with hopefully a lot less need for tinkering than my Europa (although that's part of the fun for me!)

Congrats on the Elise! It is absolutely a fantastic car.

But does this mean that the 328 will go away?

From reading, this seems almost like a spiritual successor to the 206 where light weight was the primary goal. Estimated TOA is 1/2005. Never thought I would buy an English car.
