Noel, Sorry, I know that much. Did not mean to infer something else. AtPOS is a company. I believe Macy's is using their products. I know the founder if their products look interesting. --Dan PS: OUCH on the bill! |

Dan, POS = Point Of Sale System, it keeps track of the business' inventory & sales. These systems are highly scalable. We recently upgraded the system of our casino's restaurant, and the bill was over $100k. |

Well, I guess QuickSell is out... from www.quicksell2000.com: Microsoft has announced that support for QuickSell 2000 will end on September 30, 2004. Therefore we recommend that all current users upgrade to Microsoft's Retail Management System Store Operations. TARSUS Point of Sale Systems will stop selling QuickSell 2000 on October 1, 2003. Also, I was mistaken. They have Pinpad 1000s. That QS2000 website should have everything you need. |

I have experience supporting a client with ICVerify and QuickSell 2000. QuickSell is the POS software, ICVerify does the credit card verification. They're great when they work. Hardware: -Windows 2000 Dell computers -Symbol bar code scanner (was fairly easy to program when I got a tech on the phone) -PinPad 2000 keypads (for debit cards. These have been a NIGHTMARE. They still don't work properly, ICVerify can't figure out why, and I had to hack a way to get them working. Your bank should be the one giving you the keypads - make sure they're compatible.) -Cherry keyboard that swipes the credit card. (Pretty simple to program.) There are 2 POS machines, connected to a server that houses the databases and programs. There's also a machine in the back room that is used for POS management (through QuickSell), Quickbooks, and store video monitoring (it's a liquor store, so physical security is a huge issue). I also recently previewed the Microsoft POS systems that can be used in conjunction with Small Business Server 2003. Very cool stuff, and also very flexible. However, I know nothing of pricing, and from what I've heard, it's definitely not cost effective for a small business that really doesn't need the bells and whistles and can't afford an IT guy to manage it. I'll see if I can dig up some links for the other stuff. -Mike |

I use these in my biz. Just like all computers they are great when they work right! When they go bad an they will, service is everything. Buy from a big name or at least someone local to you. We our now switching to Dell. One terminal is aprox. $3000. |

Yes, I've searched online and have found too many - and I don't really know which ones are better / more reliable than others. I am speficically interested in software (inventory, sales, receipts, etc) and hardware (scanner, touch-screen monitor) that will turn a PC into a register/inventory machine. I've seen these all over the place at small shops, but I have no idea where to go get a good package. Ideas? Ernesto |

Costco sells some basic cash registers that you can program and extract data from. You can also look online... |
