Thanks Darth. Any help would be appreciated. I'll let you know when they've made a decision. |

Nibs, If you choose that path (Mercury-Ford), I have a cousin who will take good care of you. He is the Fleet Manager at Galpin. BTW, when I had an Expedition for ONE day, I called at least 10 people I know and said, "Im on my way over with a razor, do me a favor and run me a warm bath!" WHAT A BOAT! Lemme know, DL |

Jim - I thought about having them look at an Infinity, but they don't want to spend a lot of dough. The Expedition my mom wants is about $33k sticker, and carsdirect.com can get it to them for invoice + $200, minus a $4000 rebate. That puts the Expedition, and the Marauder, at around $27k each. The Crown Vic, fully loaded, comes in aroun $22k with rebates, discounts, etc. I am doing my best to steer my mom away from the Expedition. I think she is beginning to understand the increased cost of ownership with gas alone, and I really don't want her to be the typical "soccer mom" driving around a completely useless vehicle. Don't get me wrong, I like em, but 99% of the peopl driving them don't "use" them. Tomorrow I'm taking the step-pops to a local Mercuary dealer to drive the Marauder, then to a Ford store to drive a Crown Vic. We'll see what he thinks! I'll mention the Infinity, because I like them and realize the value within them, but I don't know if they'll bite anything over $35k. |

Marauder is a good choice but I will toss an alternative in here for them to consider. I don't know the price off the top of my head but if they are looking at a traditional Front Engine 8 Cyl RWD Sedan take a boo at the Infiniti M45. They did the NORTH AMERICAN SEDAN one better. Worth the look. Tell your mom the Expididtion is TOO THURSTY and she will just look like everyone else parked badly in the starbucks parking lot. The car is worth a look |

Hey, no idea about those cars, but a Lincoln Towncar with 180K is not "nearing its end" those things go FOREVER, I used to have one in the early nineties, the airport limousine companies put 1,000,000 KM on them before they retire them, they will go forever. Still, its always nice to get a new car |

CMC - Claremont McKenna College. It's one of the few fairly conservative liberal arts colleges left in the nations. |

I see a Marauder every day at the office and it is a very mean looking machine. If your folks are really "conservative", i.e. don't like to be flashy, maybe it would be a bit much. However, I'm sure it's a lot of fun and a lot of bang for the buck - get them to test drive it and see what happens. BTW What's CMC? |

There's really nothing else in that same musclecar vein left for sale now....is there ? Maybe the new Impala SS with the supercharged engine....that's all that I can think of. If anything...the Marauder will make people driving slow in the left lane move over because they may think it is a cop car. The only reason my father never bought a Hemi car in the late 60's was because it was too much money and he couldn't get financed. Tell your father to go ahead and do it so he can enjoy himself before he is "legislated" into driving a Prius or some other flavorless transportation device. |

My mother and step-father are finally biting the bullet and buying a new car. Currently, they are driving a 96 Camry w/110k miles and a 90 Lincoln Town Car w/180k, both bough new. My step dad is a professor at CMC. He's a fairly stiff conservative. My mom is also pretty conservative. Their Lincoln is nearing its end, and my mom wants either an F150 SuperCrew or an Expedition. My step dad wants a Mercury Marauder or a Crown Vic. The Marauder is quite the beast. A Grand Marquise with a 4.6 DOHC, 302hp, 310tq V8. It handles very well for a 2 ton sedan, and the interior is pretty damn cool. It's blk/blk, with 18in wheels and bucket seats. A really nifty car. If you haven't seen it, take a look. Anyways, they are relying on my advice on what to buy. Unfortunately, they don't want a F-car. I really want them to buy the Marauder, but I wonder if they'll be happy with it. The one thing in particular is the fact that after 30k, they'll have to buy new 18in low profile tires, which can be pricey. But anyways, are there any conservative old-farts here that owns one? If so, what are your thoughts? Is it a car that a mid-50's political science professor would be happy with? The Crown Vic, with 50 less hp, is also $5k less, and, I think, it's a damn fine car. Any thoughts? |
